Up to £65,000 + Pension + BUPA + ShareSave + 6.6 weeks holiday + hybrid working

Role Purpose:

Within the Customer Team, the Data Quality Manager will be responsible for ensuring a single version of truth for customer data exists and that data quality is of the highest standard. They will interact with a varied group of stakeholders to truly understand our data and enable analysts and other data professionals across the business to have access to the data they need in the right way.

The Data Quality Manager will be themselves an exceptional data quality analyst and will develop and implement our customer data quality strategy and operating framework that aligns with the business objectives of B&Q.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Development and implementation of our data quality strategy and operating framework, including ongoing mapping exercises to understand the customer data landscape; where and how customer data is being used and stored.
  • Responsible for defining and executing the migration strategy for the Customer Team to our cloud-based analytics platform.
  • Designing and leading the implementation of our ‘single version of truth’ datasets through combining multiple data sources, including helping to define and manage customer entities.
  • Identification and mitigation of potential data quality issues at all stages of the data lifecycle. Ensuring data quality issues are addressed at source.
  • Monitoring and measurement of data quality performance, ensuring we have the right tools and mitigations in place to ensure data quality.
  • Triage data quality issues, understand impact and importance, using agile management practices to prioritise effectively across the varying analytical needs and value drivers, ensuring proactive altering is in place for end users.
  • Lead data quality analysts within a team, growing and nurturing team through coaching and training.
  • Develop a culture of learning, empowerment, experimentation and collaboration.
  • Work closely with Tech and Kingfisher to help deliver our data quality framework and roadmap as well as ensuring the data in the data lake is in the correct location for stakeholders to use.
  • Be an active member of the wider data community across the group, engaging with the group data team and other banners across the group.
  • Bring external thinking to B&Q by maintaining an awareness of analytics usage in retail and other sectors and by keeping abreast of competitor technology and developments.
  • Support the growth of new channels, Services, Digital, MarketPlace and Retail Media through reliable and controlled data sets.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • You have an extensive data quality background yourself. You’re an expert in SQL and have some experience using other languages such as Python or R.
  • You’ve had experience using cloud based analytical platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Google BigQuery and the like.
  • Experience working within and leading teams using Agile methodologies and approaches.
  • You have a proven track record of being able to develop and coach highly technical teams. You can mentor, motivate, and empower your team members to grow their skills and performance.
  • You have had experience deploying data quality and assurance workflows with tools like Airflow.
  • You fully understand the importance of Data Governance and good Data Quality practices and have a proven track record of implementing these.
  • You have extensive experience with Quality Assurance, and lead coding documentation and version control best practices using GitHub.
  • You know the basics of and want to explore new realms of customer behavioural analysis and omnichannel personalisation.
  • You have a strong attention detail and are willing to take the time to ensure the accuracy of your work.
  • You’ve used Jira/Confluence before for managing workloads and documentation. –
  • You’re curious: about how things work and getting to the bottom of business problems and data nuances.
  • You understand and maximise the value of data, and act with a commercial lens, prioritising the actions and usefulness of outputs.
  • You have excellent communication skills and an ability to converse with stakeholders.
