This Deputy Director of Public Health role is a great opportunity to be part of the team making this a reality for our city and delivering high profile, multi-layer partnership programmes of work that are local, regional and national priorities. The role is aligned to local public health priorities to bring dedicated specialist consultant capacity to boost our established leadership and provide focused leadership and This role is at the heart of the strategic leadership of public health working to strengthen our interagency relationships at a senior level alongside the Director of Public Health, particularly with our academic partners as we work to improve the translation of evidence into practice and with our NHS Integrated Care System as we co-create population health and quality improvement methods. Bringing ethics and governance as core skills, this role leads our continuous improvement approach mobilising behaviours science, social marketing and core public health skills to maximise the impact of our work. We are honest and realistic about the financial challenges we face across our City partnership and we can only achieve sustainable changes that increase healthy life expectancy by working better together and embedding prevention into every pathway of health and social care. As our Deputy Director in Public Health you will take your position as part of the Extended Leadership Team, deputising for the Director Public Health when required and building your own strategic relationships and networks at a senior level with our key partners across the city. You will inspire those around you, igniting desire and drive to transform services and empower citizens and communities. The pace of progress must be rapid and sustainable, while the portfolio may change and evolve over time. This means that your constant adaptability and focus on delivery is critical, as well as a compassionate and inspiring leadership approach to line management to lead our wider determinants teams. You will be bold in your ambition for our city, and to deliver real change for citizens lives, and ensure the delivery of specialist public health input to the ambitions of our partners to support healthier lives. Crucially, you bring proven experience of strategic leadership and consistent achievement in a broadly comparable environment, and you’re knowledgeable around leading significant programmes of transformational change which have major impact on people and processes and achieve significant savings. To be successful in your application, you’ll be included in either the GMC Specialist Register, the GDC Specialist List or the UK Public Health Specialist Register - ‘Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List in dental public health or UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry to a register at the date of interview. Registration with either UKPHR or GMC/GDC is a requirement for this role and alternative registrations will not be considered. Applicants who do not hold these professional registration cannot be considered for the role and this role is not one where the Council can provide employer sponsor visa application.

Applicants in training grades

Medical and dental applicants

All medical/dental applicants must have Full and Specialist registration (with a license to practice) with the General Medical Council or General Dental Council (GMC/GDC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. Once a candidate is a holder of the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), registration with the relevant register is guaranteed.

Applicants that are UK trained must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview demonstrated by a letter from their Training Programme Director (TPD).

Non-Medical Applicants in training programme

All non-medical applicants must be registered with the UKPHR or be within six months of registration at the date of the interview. Applicants must provide proof (letter of confirmation from their TPD or the CCT) at interview.

Applicants in non-training grades

Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.

Applicants from a medical background will be expected to have gained full specialist registration with the GMC through the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) route.

Applicants from a background other than medicine are expected to have gained full specialist registration with the UKPHR at the point of application.
