About the Trust



Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest general hospital foundation trusts in the country.





We provide acute medical and surgical services to Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire and specialist services such as cancer, dialysis, and eye surgery to a wider population across Berkshire and its borders.

What you’ll be responsible for:




  • Support the Head of Procurement in the development and delivery of the Trust’s Procurement Strategy, Transformation and CIP programmes. Helping to identify, review and implement new policies and processes where required.

  • Work closely with Trust divisions to provide a corporate service whilst ensure that procurement delivers effective strategic, commercial, and operational support, adhering to our governance structure and SFIs.

  • Lead and line manage employees within the Procurement team providing coaching and leadership in line with the Department’s strategy, and annual targets.

    • Ensure all functional team members have clear personal objectives, receive regular appraisals, agreed development plans, including learning and training, in line with the Trust’s annual appraisal agenda and objectives.

    • Inspire and ensure the function works as a team and works cross functionally across the Trust. Championing collaborative and supportive working.

    • Ensure that non-performance is properly managed in line with best practice and the Trust’s policies.

    • Deputise the Head of Procurement as and when required.







You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust:




  • An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS

  • Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times

  • A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation





You’ll have the following skills/experience:




  • Expertise in negotiating hospital related supplies.

  • Have experience of large department staff with associated budget.

  • A clear vision of where Procurement can deliver business benefits

  • A strong and advanced negotiator

  • Strong commercial and business awareness and acumen
