About the role:
We are currently seeking a Deputy Site Manager for the Guildford & South West Surrey area. This role presents an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team of professionals committed to delivering the production of millions of litres of water for customers across South West Surrey each day. The successful candidate will lead a team of M&E technicians and work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective and continuous operation of sites, operating and optimising all processes and equipment on water treatment works to ensure water quality, compliance, safety and operational efficiency.
Essential Skills:

  • Experience within maintenance, water or waste, or similar technical environment
  • Experience in technical job design and/or prerequisite management at another water utility
  • Technical experience from an industrial maintenance background
  • Ability to demonstrate logical thinking, attention to detail, and workload management is a must
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Ability to make decisions about our sites, sometimes under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid driving licence
  • Health and safety knowledge
  • Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, building strong relationships quickly
  • Competent with IT systems - in particular SAP and MS Office suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to build report
  • Ability to meet contractors on site and therefore work in line with operational working hours (07:30 to 15:30) - a degree of flexibility is required and possible.
Desirable Skills:
  • Management of Water Production or equivalent qualification
  • Background and knowledge of engineering
  • Experience in procurement and working to a budget
  • Calm under pressure
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be a key member of the area leadership and management team and will help set the pace for the wider team, promoting a safe, efficient, and resilient operation.
The role of Deputy Site Manager reports to, and deputises for, the area Production Manager and is a key and active member of the operations management team for the area. The Deputy Site Manager plays a pivotal role in the line management of the M&E team, leading the delivery of the area maintenance programme, as well as our response to operational incidents and events.
The candidate will set the standard for, and lead, a team of duel skilled Mechanical and Electrical Technicians, who not only are responsible for the maintenance of assets within the area but are also able to fulfil the role of Process Technician.
The role includes:
  • Preparation and coordination of daily work to be carried out by a team of M&E technicians.
  • Personnel management and career development planning for members of the M&E team.
  • Other line management activities including delivery of KPI targets relevant to your team as well as contribution to the overall area KPI's.
  • Maintain asset availability and ensuring our site performance is maintained
  • Raise and manage permits to work
  • Manage the Minor Capital Works spend, and prioritisation of works and spend with support from the Technical Manager
  • Responsible for assuring that all new assets or those modified under MCW and technical planning activity are updated in SAP
  • Raising asset-related purchase orders
  • Issue TWOSAs for minor capital work, leading the technical planning activity, as well as the facilitation and management contractors delivering the minor capital work
  • Plan work in SAP/tech workbench and attend planning meetings to ensure that the correct skills, equipment, and materials are being delivered and utilised efficiently to avoid aborted contractor activity or internal site visits
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and organised stock/inventory of parts and equipment which reflects the status of the work order.
  • H & S - conducting and organising SHE audits with other members of the area management team, raining safeguard actions, attend H & S stand-downs on all sites, raise work orders with EMCOR.
  • Obtain material quotations and contractor quotations for asset-related work against a SAP work order, raise and goods receipt purchase orders.
