Glencourt Associates is a recruitment agency specialising in the retail interiors market, including store-fitting, retail fixturing, point of sale (POS) and point of purchase (POP).


Role Description

Our client is a leading supplier of retail merchandising systems. They are looking for a Design Development Engineer with 3 to 5 years’ design experience, as well as a Senior Design Development Engineer with 5 to 10 years’ design experience. Design experience must be in mixed material solutions including metal, timber, plastic, glass and graphics – ideally from the Retail Fit-Out / POS sector. Both roles are full-time (hybrid).


This is a great opportunity to create engineering solutions aligned with the company’s manufacturing and outsourced capabilities, as well as liaising closely with customers and account managers to establish a thorough understanding of the design brief, manufacturing and sourcing. Working to tight deadlines, you will be responsible for converting a design brief into an engaging and compelling design solution.


Key Accountabilities:

• Working alongside and supporting the sales team, and other areas of the business to ensure that customers’ design development needs and requirements are met and understood.

• Being able to receive and understand design briefs, being knowledgeable in the type of information required, how and when to challenge a brief and have an ability to provide opinions and proposals at the briefing stage.

• A good knowledge of the design process including current and upcoming trends, retail markets together with consumer and brand insights.

• The ability to produce high quality engineering drawings in CAD and Inventor, to accurately communicate design engineering requirements.

• Producing design solutions which are engaging, innovative and functional.

• Capable of persuading customer through design process to influence best outcome for both parties.

• Direct engagement with customers through the aid of digital devices to enhance the customer experience and speed up the process of communication to get to final design proposal delivered quicker.

• Own and manage the entire project / prototype process of the design to gain customer approval, including production in which a prototype can be created.

• Working with the internal team of stakeholders and the customer to ensure that the prototype is created within project timelines, specifications and expectations.

• Manage workload through a design development tracker to ensure deadlines are always met and communicated with customers and the sales team.

• Document and share design development areas of best practice.

• Suggest, present & incorporate VAVE ideas into all design briefs to enhance profitability.

• Ensure specification / risk and O&M manuals are produced and issued.

• National, European and International travel may be required from time to time and at short notice.

• Attend relevant training and exhibitions / conferences to continuously develop knowledge and skills.

• Ensuring that safe working practices are met and in line with all legislative requirements.


Education / Skills / Experience:

• Design computer literacy is required with proven skills in Inventor or similar works package.

• Experience in mixed material solutions including metal, timber, plastic, glass and graphics.

• Educated to high achievement A level, ideally degree level or equivalent.

• Proven track record of delivering high quality & accurate drawings in CAD and Inventor, to communicate design intent.

• Demonstrable evidence of developing strong relationships with multi contact points within a customer.

• Understanding of the customer design decision making process and the ability to articulate solutions to gain new project / initiative work.

• Ability to plan, organise, communicate and manage customer relationships.

• Strong presentation and communication skills.

• Very well organised with strong time management skills to manage workload and achieve deadlines.

• Positive attitude, driven, energetic, team player and professionally ambitious.

• Strong sense of urgency.

• Excellent presentation skills with a keen eye for detail.

• Self-starter, independent and self-sufficient.
