ROLE- Project Design Engineer

TERM- Permanent



LOCATION - Dudley



SALARY- £35,000 - £45,000, dependent on experience



My client is a manufacturer of specialist equipment for a variety of sectors. They’re looking for a Project Design Engineer to join their team near Dudley on a permanent basis. Experience in both design and project engineer roles is desirable.



The Project Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ / Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar Design Engineering / CAD Operation position
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience with any of the following; structural steel, pipework, installations, conveyors
  • Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as Inventor and SolidWorks
  • Previous experience working with sheet metal would be preferred.
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
  • Have the ability to work well alone as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary team



The Project Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Using CAD for concept design and producing technical drawings
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Being involved in final assembly of products
  • Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
  • Checking drawings for sign off
  • Working in a small multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
  • Being involved in purchasing for projects and chasing suppliers as and when required
  • Preparing the required project related documentation & drawings
  • Making sure that all the aims of the project are met
  • Making sure the quality standards are met
  • Using IT or other systems to keep track of people and progress
  • Display a proactive, can-do attitude within the organisation, with a culture of right first time and ownership of problems
