Design Manager
Our client is one of the UKs leading is a multi-disciplinary utilities, LV / HV power, EV and renewable energy contractors, with the skills and expertise to design and deliver complex projects in highly regulated and hazardous environments across a number of different service lines, regional offices and business units.
Overview
Due to continued expansion and the commitment to sustained and profitable growth, our client now wishes to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Design Manager to manage, monitor and support the full design process, from initial conception through to on-site completion, whilst interacting with relevant stakeholders and leading your direct reports to ensure the implementation is in line with business requirements, design guidelines and customer specifications. Working from the Swindon office, with the flexibility to work part of the week at home. The experienced candidate must have design management experience from the power sector.
The Role
Lead the design team and process to suit both needs of the business and compliance with relevant regulations and requirements
Prepare concept scheme designs and communicate these with appropriate parties to build proposals
Oversee the production of schematic diagrams from basic philosophy or engineers sketches
Complete audits and input into quality assurance on new and existing facilities to ensure installations are in line with both the design intent and best practices
Lead the design team in verification, validation, and certification of all designs
Day to day management of design department, including supporting development opportunities and mentoring
Liaise with commercial on scope specification and context for design
Manage design registers and design submissions, acting as reference / escalation point for queries from IDNO / DNO clients
Manage design data and records in line with ISO requirements
Ensure correct engineering rigour on designs for safety for LV and HV projects
Support, when necessary, the wider business in technical customer meetings
Building and maintaining client relationships, ensuring positive commercial outcomes for all parties
The Person
Proficient in the use of productivity and collaboration software such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint etc, across multiple platforms such as smart phones, tablets and laptops
Excellent communication, including ability to adapt your communication styles and outstanding listening skills with ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to use own initiative as well as work collaboratively as part of a team
Confident in working collaboratively as well as using own creativity and initiative to develop high standard designs
Excellent attention to detail which can be maintained when working under pressure and within a fast-paced environment
Confident in planning activities and managing the execution of associated designs
Hold a degree in electricalor construction engineering or have comparable demonstrable experience
A valid UK Driving licence (maximum of 3 points)
Demonstrative experience in implementing design strategies
Demonstrable experience in managing a small to medium design teams
Experience of working with DNO / IDNOclients
Experience of G81 requirementsand relevant BSEN/ISO technical standards for cables or earthing etc
