Job Description

A speciality chemicals distributor that provides into the personal care and cosmetic manufacturing industries is looking to recruit a Development Chemist to their team based in Buckinghamshire.

My client has an application laboratory in the UK which is used to better understand raw materials and develop innovative Skincare, Sun care, Colour Cosmetic, Toiletry and Haircare formulations.

The successful applicant will already have experience as a development chemist within a similar industry, most likely personal care ingredients or end product manufacturer.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Developing new formulations to demonstrate the benefits of products.
  2. Providing technical assistance to customers, helping them to create new formulations.
  3. Investigating new materials to assess their functionality and possible applications.
  4. Developing and designing trends presentations supported by formulations.
  5. Using technical expertise to create attractive brochures, presentations and other marketing materials for products and formulations.
  6. Communicating complex scientific information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in marketing materials.
  7. Evaluating new and interesting ingredient technologies applicable to Personal Care products.
  8. Developing Company strategy on how best to promote products, and sourcing new products.
  9. Supporting sales teams by providing them with information, presentations and formulations.
  10. Visiting customers with sales teams in the UK and Poland.
  11. Travelling worldwide to attend technical exhibitions and symposia and to visit suppliers.
  12. Presenting technical and trends-based presentations to customers and at industry events.

Skills and experience:

  • BSc or equivalent in Chemistry or Cosmetic Science or similar subject.
  • Prior formulation experience within the cosmetics or personal care industry would be highly desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Skills within spoken or written Polish would be an advantage.
