Job Description

Development Chemist (Scientist Level) - Will collaborate with the current R&D staff, project teams and stakeholders performing literature research, experiment design, synthesis, purification, analysis and optimisation studies to develop new products, new applications and to support the production facilities. Work with our commercial teams to create products, formulations and applications for our products in the expanding list of markets, including flavour and fragrance, personal care, home care, industrial and agrochemical sectors.

Primary Responsibilities:

Work within a team to develop new products or processes for implementation into our facilities. This involves designing and running reactions, distillations or other production methods in the laboratory, confirming viability with testing and analysis and then scaling-up to safe and viable production processes.

Identify, develop, and utilise methods to evaluate quality, purity, and technical performance of new products or formulations, including the use of statistical tools to generate and evaluate data.

Evaluate laboratory data and document results, reach conclusions and report/present results and recommendations to project teams as required.

Evaluate existing production plant processes for potential improvements and modifications. Assist the plant production team by identifying, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they come up.

Participate and lead technical discussions with our commercial group, in customer meetings and in key associations as needed.

Collaborate with the technical and commercial teams to create new product offerings for a wide range of applications in our expanding list of markets.

Develop project plans for a gated development process and provide regular updates to the project team and stakeholders. This will include presentations as well as formal written reports.

Ensure compliance with safety procedures and actively participate in safety programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

PhD in Chemistry, ideally synthetic organic.

5+ years of industrial experience in R&D, process development or plant improvement projects.

Strong knowledge of organic chemistry and principles of synthesising, purifying, characterising and formulating products.

Familiarity with literature searching software, patent literature and critical analysis of data.

Efficient laboratory skills with the ability to construct and operate equipment modelling existing or future plant processes.

Self-starter with above average organisational and project management skills; able to run multiple projects and activities with minimal supervision.

Ability to work and communicate with existing Scientists and be a team player.

Computer literacy: MS-Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
