Director of Finance and Data Analytics – American Thrift Stores

Multi-location PE-backed CPG and retail operation is seeking a Director of Finance and Data Analytics to join their organization. Reporting to the CFO, the Director will play an instrumental strategic and hands-on role in the continual definition and implementation of best-in-class finance and data analytical people, procedures, analytics, and reporting. In this role, you will drive confidence and leadership across our business decisions and play a key role in managing expectations across executive and private equity stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional business partnering capabilities, with the ability to effectively transform data into actionable insights and to contextualize technical financial contents to business partners. The candidate will provide insights on opportunities and risks impacting performance and provide insights which improve decision-making and financial outcomes. Additionally, the candidate will be capable of looking outside the predefined variables to further identify strategic drivers of the company’s performance and forecast.

Responsibilities

  • Work with and act as right hand to the CFO to define the financial and data strategy that will provide useful financial insights to help make the best decisions about executing the business strategy.
  • Manage a team of 8-10 direct/indirect reports that are responsible for FP&A, Data, and Planning and Analysis. Be keenly focused on mentorship, career development, and succession planning.
  • Develop and direct financial plans to deliver the strategic business plan, company growth and market opportunities and direction.
  • Oversee all processes for financial forecasting, budgets, and consolidations, planning (short and long range), and analysis.
  • Advance the use of FP&A data to develop real time analytics, insights, and predictive analytics.
  • Develop sophisticated business analytics and reporting where gaps exist; advance existing reporting to generate insights that can be leveraged by multiple stakeholders to drive business decisions.
  • Drive to improve the efficiency of analytics practices at the company by working with the analytics and development teams to understand how data is measured and used.
  • Develop and lead the strategic planning process, including ownership of the Company Scorecard and KPIs, to identify meaningful initiatives to achieve organizational goals.
  • Establish, cultivate, and maintain relationships across department to ensure completion of projects and adherence to financial policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a key point of contact with private equity investors, executives, and business heads.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Planning, Finance, Analytics, or related discipline
  • 8+ years of relevant finance and data analytical experience
  • Demonstrated prowess in business partnering and full cycle financial and strategic planning, including budgeting, forecast, reporting, financial modeling, and analysis.
  • An independent and flexible problem solver who effectively manages ambiguity while maintaining strong attention to detail and speed.
  • Excellence in scenario modelling.
  • Experience working in a multi-unit/location/market organization.
  • Proven people leader who can manage a large team with a focus on mentorship, career development, and succession planning.
  • Strong knowledge and comprehension of relational databases, data warehousing, mining, and querying with SQL.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. A good listener with outstanding influencing qualities and a natural, effective consultative style.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset that is not limited to staying in their lane and can create definition out of ambiguity.
  • Excellent ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate strategic and business goals into visual deliverables.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • High emotional and social intelligence with experience fostering positive and strong relationships with diverse groups.
