Embryologist   Location: Ormiston, East Lothian EH35 5NG Job Type: Full Time Salary: Dependant on experience Animal Breeding Europe Limited is the largest UK based company specialising in artificial insemination, in-vitro production of embryos and embryo transfer in both sheep, goats and cattle. We are seeking an experienced embryologist for our sheep and cattle reproductive teams based near Edinburgh. This is a key role involving embryo collection, grading, freezing and transfer of embryos, plus our IVF process. You must have previous embryology experience and working with sheep and cattle would be an advantage. You also must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.     The Embryologist job role involves: Providing embryology to both our sheep and cattle veterinary teams at our centre outside Edinburgh. Providing embryology and assistance to our vet teams carrying out artificial insemination and embryo transfer on farms throughout the UK and Ireland. Undertaking all embryology tasks for both cattle and sheep reproductive teams. Collecting, grading and transferring fresh/frozen embryos into recipients. Freezing and thawing of embryos. Freezing embryos for export approved work. Learning our IVP system and oocyte searching, grading and processing. Further training of staff and continued improvement of the companies processes and SOP’S. Ensuring precise quality control & monitoring all tasks. Stock-taking, and handling of frozen embryo stores. Cleaning and sterilising all surgery equipment when required. Ensuring all records associated with embryology are recorded and maintained ie. donor and recipient paperwork and medicine records.   Qualifications and Experience Working as part of a small team you would be required to have good interpersonal skills and must be able to work independently. A qualification in biology or animal science is not essential but would be advantageous. Experience in embryology is a must. A good telephone manner is also required alongside basic computer literacy. The right candidate would need to demonstrate great attention to detail, accurate record-keeping skills and be flexible to work with the commercial nature of the business. A passion for agricultural sciences and livestock would be essential.   Hours of work The normal hours of work are 36.5hrs per week, usual office hours of 8.30am – 5pm Mon – Thurs and 8.30 am– 4pm on a Friday. Work can be seasonal and additional hours will be required in the high season which can be taken as days off in lieu in the low season or as over time payment to be discussed.   Travel The post is based near Edinburgh, a full, clean driving licence is required. There will be a requirement for on farm work and any accommodation while working away will be paid for by the company along with reasonable expenses submitted in line with our expenses policy.   Remuneration This is a full-time, salaried position for which the salary will be dependent on experience.
