Job Description

PureGym is the UK’s leading gym chain, and the fourth largest gym operator worldwide. Our mission is to bring high quality, affordable fitness to everyone, everywhere. With over 380 gyms in the UK, and nearly 600 gyms globally, PureGym is growing rapidly, with more than 2 million members. PureGym has a highly customer-centric proposition, offering low-priced, affordable, 24/7 gym access that can be accessed flexibly.

Our UK Gym Operations People Team has recently gone through a period of change, as we evolved to a new structure that enables us to scale our employee relations support and provide consistent, expert HR and ER advice to gym management. This has resulted in a newly formed people “Hub” team being created, based in our Leeds office. The Hub is a small team of four People Advisors and we are now looking for a ER Manager to join the team.

The role is based in our Leeds office.

The Role

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert guidance and support to our gym management team on a wide range of ER topics, company policies and processes
  • Establishing a clear escalation process to ensure that all People Advisors assess risk quickly and efficiently and are able to escalate the right topics, at the right time, to the right audience, with the right level of detail
  • Managing complex/high risk ER cases, escalated from the People Advisors as appropriate
  • Utilising appropriate case management processes to manage cases from intake to resolution
  • Develop and maintain employee relations metrics and reports to track trends, identify areas of concern, and provide insights to management and Divisional People Partners
  • Analyse data and metrics to identify opportunities for process improvement and proactively address potential employee relations issues
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements of relevant employment laws, regulations, and internal policies
  • Motivating and inspiring the Hub team to build capability and confidence in the team
  • Creating insights from data to inform process and ongoing improvements to our policies and practices and make recommendations for future proactive employee relations interventions
  • Promoting and role modelling a culture within the Hub that thrives on collaboration and the sharing of best practice
  • Building strong working relationships with the Divisional People Partners and gym management
  • Taking ownership of the HR Team inbox and consistently achieve the agreed SLAs via the Hub team

The Person

  • An experienced Employee Relations professional that has a passion for case management and exceptional attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of UK employment law
  • Experience advising on a wide range of employee relations issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of a multi-site, fast-paced organisation with a customer-centric approach
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to organise and analyse data
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact and respect
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow up skills
  • Experienced team leader who is able and happy to manage and develop a newly formed team with a range of experience
  • Passionate about inspiring and developing teams whilst rolling up their sleeves to work alongside the team in an open and collaborative way
  • Determined and resilient
  • Challenges well but from the ‘same side of the table’ to find solutions
  • Able to become the ‘go to’ person who supports and helps galvanise the team discretely and elegantly
