Engineer, Development Infrastructure, London or Cambridge About the Role:

We are seeking to recruit an Engineer to join the team in London. All Engineers are encouraged and assisted to progress their training towards Incorporated and Chartered status, internal and external training will be provided.

Your principal role will be the delivery of concept studies and strategies with hands on design, leading to planning applications and to detailed design and issue of construction drawings and specifications. You can expect to be active on a number of projects and client accounts at any given time with input to project management. You will be supported by a team of experienced technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to assist and provide guidance and support where appropriate. You are also expected to manage and mentor junior members of staff.

The position will also involve client and design team liaison, assisting in the preparation of fee proposals and financial control of projects when assisting with project management. It represents an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate.

A typical week would include:
  • Ensuring your projects are delivered to budget, programme and technical standards and meet QA, CDM and SHEQ requirements.
  • Producing masterplans, site appraisals, written submissions for planning applications, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings.
  • Preparation of drawings for Contract Documents and S38, S278, S104, S106 and S185 Agreements.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • Good written and spoken communication skills and are aware of current and emerging technical and planning guidance. Experience of using relevant software, for example PDS, AutoCAD and Micro-Drainage.
  • Experience of liaison with clients, co-professionals and design teams, and be competent in liaising with highway, water, statutory and local authorities to negotiate the necessary outline and detailed technical approvals.
  • Proficient in the design of highways using PDS (or similar software packages) together with experience in applying Highways Agency and Local Authority design guidance. You will also be proficient in the design and modelling of drainage infrastructure using Windes Mircodrainage (or similar software packaged). 
  • The ability to produce drawings in AutoCAD is essential.
  • Knowledge of AutoTrack, PDS Sign and PDS Line software would be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of the planning, design, design software, technical consents process, adoption and contract procedures for the provision of infrastructure for new developments and regeneration projects (experience within London would be beneficial) and how to effectively deliver these to achieve a client brief.
  • Knowledge of the relevant design codes such as Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Manual for Streets, Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations, SuDs Manual, Water Industry Act .
