Rolls-Royce Submarines is entering a once in a generation period of substantial growth and is looking for a talented and experienced engineering manager to lead in an established, long term (10+ year) UK Nuclear infrastructure programme.

The role on offer is a senior position which will have accountability for delivering of the Engineering of a major nuclear infrastructure project with a value in excess of £100M. Accountabilities will extend to safety, quality, cost, and time as part of a wider programme of equally high complexity and value (>£1bn).

You will report directly to the Head of Future Facility Engineering. You will be responsible for directing, managing and developing multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and partners as well as internal and external stakeholders. The project entails requirements capture, optioneering & down selection, development of engineering solutions, all phases of construction, commissioning, and safety case submission in support of the delivery of complex and novel nuclear manufacturing facilities on a Nuclear Licensed Site.

What you will be doing:

You will lead the Technical Engineering Programme and manage the team for the delivery of nuclear facilities design and build.

  • Interface with the wider programme to provide an integrated solution and capability to meet the Submarine Enterprise nuclear manufacturing strategy.
  • Manage and drive Safety by design, communicating and working with internal stakeholders and relevant regulators to achieve the optimum solution.
  • Lead, build and develop a multi-disciplinary team to deliver complex, high hazard design solutions.
  • Provide the prime customer technical interface with design and delivery partners. 
  • Manage and deliver the project technical solution, defined in the statement of work in accordance with project policy.
  • Provide programme and technical leadership and support to the project team and comply with the Engineering Function's policies throughout the life cycle of the project.
  • Maintain a programme to ensure that all activities are fully compliant with the company quality system.
  • Implement effective technical risk management and ensure appropriate engineering controls and project Gated Reviews are conducted for the package.
  • Ensure appropriate resources are deployed, directed and co-ordinated.

  • Qualified to at least degree level or equivalent industry experience.
  • Domain knowledge commensurate with the design and substantiation of nuclear plant and equipment.
  • Understanding of engineering controls such as gated reviews and change control.
  • Engineering and technical competence, sufficient to enable decision making commensurate with size of package.
  • Experience applying Systems approach or equivalent (Robust Design lead, Black belt, etc.).
  • Experience in leading an Engineering team.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
