• Manage projects as a scientific lead to drive success within the fermentation engineering team and build on our mission and values.

• Provide technical guidance for yeast and filamentous fungi fermentation development at micro, bench, and scale-up levels, focusing on optimal workflows, safety and quality.

• Strong collaboration with adjacent teams, including strain engineering, downstream processing and analytics.

• Communicate technical information to a range of audience, including cross functional teams, non-technical leaders and junior staff.

• Coordinate with CDMO/CMOs and partnerships to oversee the execution of process scale-up campaigns and manufacturing efforts.

• Work with project managers to manage project milestone, KPIs, timelines, work plans, interdependencies, and budgets.

• Drive success within the upstream processing function and across the science team, while comfortably holding others accountable and leading and influencing others across the company to deliver objectives.

• Cultivate an environment where feedback is valued.

This role will involve hands on establishment of fermentation processes with coached development strategy and leadership skills in parallel.

What experience you'll need:

• A PhD in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, bioprocessing or a similar relevant area.

• 3-6 years of relevant experience post PhD.

• Expertise in fermentation process development, especially interfacing with strain engineering teams, including strategy, process improvement, troubleshooting, and problem solving.

• Proven experience in scaling up process from benchtop (4L DasGIP systems) bioreactors to > 10 L.

• Broad knowledge of microbiology, particularly in yeast.

• Excellent problem solving, ability to be creative in finding new solutions, and critical thinking skills, including strong attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbally and in writing.

• The ability to analyse and summarise complex scientific data and communicate this to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Excellent organisation, planning, and time management skills.

• Self-motivation, a willingness to learn, independence and a proactive driving force of efficient execution.

• A team player who enjoys helping others to develop and thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, where rapid change is the norm.

Desirable Experience:

• At least 3 years of experience in an industrial environment leading projects in a fermentation team.
