Job Description

Fully woven into the DNA of M&S, our Finance team plays a fundamental role in setting the pace for our key business decisions, shaping our budgets, analysing our sales, managing costs and making sure our most vital statistics and data are absolutely accurate. Within the Salford Quays Finance Service Centre, we are moving beyond a shared service centre; we play a critical part in the M&S ‘One Finance Team’ and are heading towards our ambition to become a centre of excellence - there’s never been a better time to be part of our team!

Reporting to the BSC Finance Manager – Property, you'll be responsible for delivering month end and supporting on forecasting cycles for Property costs including Legal and Management fees and other smaller property cost lines, plus providing support to the Senior Finance Analyst on the IFRS16 leases. The role involves the posting of accruals and prepayments, reconciliation of balance sheets, supporting on variance analysis and budgeting and forecasting. The role also works very closely with the Senior Finance Managers and Head of Finance in our wider London team.

What you’ll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Drilling down on large data sets to identify what is going on! Preparation of financial reports, providing accurate financial data for analysis and commentary, working closely with finance colleagues and business divisions to support strategic decision making
  • Driving increased insight through analysis to identify trends, challenge assumptions and make recommendations to deliver business benefit
  • Ensuring a strong financial control environment is maintained
  • Troubleshooting solutions to business unit queries and proactively taking action to resolve any complex issues
  • Driving operational improvements, identifying efficiencies, and implementing them

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Using data and analysis to solve problems
  • Confident, clear, and effective communicator
  • Studying towards CIMA/ACCA qualification or equivalent
