Job Description

Finance Business Analyst - Investment Banking role and responsibilities:

  • This role will require working closely with the Finance department to gather detailed business requirements as part of one of the largest and most strategic change programmes in the Bank
  • This role must communicate within a multi-disciplinary team, gain consensus for the best solution and implement the required changes within the required timeframe, budget and quality parameters.
  • The individual will ensure that the business requirements documents produced have sufficient detail and have evaluated the potential impact of the changes made, including a traceability matrix (if relevant), and will involve the appropriate staff or teams during the testing and delivery of changes, including helping to resolve any issues.
  • Demonstrate proactivity in seizing opportunities to enhance efficiency of project deliverables and so welcome a true team player willing to proactively deliver value and support others within the project where capacity and timelines permit.
  • Work with Finance SME/s to understand the current processes of departments and the organisation, including liaising with EMEA offices
  • Analyse and provide recommendations re the optimal approach to gain efficiencies, communicate the preferred approach across stakeholders and gather consensus to support and provide documentation to support
  • Identify and document the processes, system changes and timescales required to introduce changes and ensure the correct governance of the change process
  • Work closely with the Finance SME/s to appraise senior stakeholders (likely to include MD and above level stakeholders) of the potential impact of changes in processes, systems etc
  • Ensure that the benefits of changes and recommendations are made clear to the relevant departments and to senior stakeholders and address any uncertainty and concern.
  • Detail the appropriate business requirements to allow IT to produce a technical specification
  • Support and involve the appropriate staff and teams in the testing and delivery of changes, including helping to resolve any issues.

The Successful Applicant

Finance Business Analyst - Investment Banking experience and qualifications:

  • The individual is accountable for business analysis in relation to bank-securities integration and may be expected to present at SteerCos, translating complex processes and technical detail clearly and logically, explaining any implications or risks so that senior management can make effective decisions based on the BA's input.
  • The individual must have experience in Finance transformation and change programmes in investment banking
  • The individual must have a good knowledge and understanding of investment banking products i.e. securities and derivatives, as well as front to back processes in a typical investment banking trade lifecycle.
  • Educated to degree level
  • Able to successfully manage multiple tasks at any given point, strong relationship building skills & communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively to gain agreement and resolve conflict
  • Must be able to take own initiative but also willing to support and take direction when working with a Project or Programme Manager
  • Resilient to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to demonstrate flexibility to move between "big picture" thinking and handling detailed tactical information.
  • Able to work collaboratively in teams, ask good questions to rapidly understand complex systems and processes, analyse data and make recommendations based on evidence from the data.
  • Experience with MS products, including Visio



Specialist technical skills

  • Experience in Finance transformation and change programmes in investment banking
  • Experience in conducting workshops with senior stakeholders to gather business requirements within Financial Services.
  • Experience in producing business requirements documents, covering current and future state proposals, and a traceability matrix.
  • Experience in user acceptance testing, including writing test cases and managing defects
  • Any experience in regulatory reporting, MI reporting and general ledger will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge and understanding of investment banking products i.e. securities and derivatives
  • Knowledge and understanding of front to back processes in a typical investment banking trade lifecycle
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic accounting principles
