Job Description

We think this is a special place to work. So, before we get into the detail of this job opportunity, here's a few words about who we are and what's important to us.

Grosvenor is an international organisation whose activities span urban property, food & agtech, rural estate management and support for philanthropic initiatives. We're united by a common goal to deliver lasting commercial, social and environmental benefit.

We're steeped in history but focused on the future

We may have 340 years of history, but we are firmly focused on the future. From progressive environmental action to being at the forefront of community engagement, we work with purpose and embrace change. So diversity of thought and fresh perspectives really matter to us. We want our people to bring everything they are to work. Their life experiences, their knowledge, their unique take on challenges and solutions.

What's it like to work here?

Well, there is plenty to talk about. It's purposeful, whether that's innovative ways to tackle the climate crisis or engaging meaningfully with local communities. It's commercial and ambitious, which you'll see in our transformational development projects and diverse investment pipeline. It's sociable, in our buzzing café and at our many events. It's challenging, varied and supportive: contributing to inclusion and innovation is part of everyone's personal goals here. We also enjoy a flexible work environment and, because it's a family business, we like to think we are a little less corporate too.

Purpose of Role

The Finance Centre is Grosvenor's UK centre of excellence for financial operations. Within this framework, the Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the general ledgers of the Group Team, UK Urban Property and Diversified Property Investments businesses are well-maintained and provide a solid foundation from which the Finance Centre can report to its stakeholders.

More broadly, the role of the Accounting Manager is to ensure that key areas of accounting are performed with diligence and consistency, while ensuring that the financial control environment around the general ledgers remains robust. The role is expected to work closely with the UK Reporting Manager to ensure that high quality accounts are produced at the year-end and that high-quality financial information is available to the Finance Centre's stakeholders throughout the year both within the holding company accounts for which the Accounting Manager is ultimately responsible, and on the property company accounts for which the UK Reporting Manager is responsible.

To support these goals, the role has four direct reports, one of which is a qualified accountant. A key requirement of the role is to train and develop these individuals with the dual aims of creating a high-performing team and facilitating great career opportunities. The successful candidate will demonstrate true passion for the development and nurturing of junior talent, with an understanding of agile training techniques.

This role provides an opportunity for a diligent and innovative finance leader to establish and improve processes which support the Finance Centre's mission statement of being a genuine centre of excellence for financial operations at Grosvenor.

The Accounting Manager is expected to take a leading role in instilling the Finance Centre's culture of continuous improvement. This will be achieved through constantly looking for and implementing innovative ways to deliver efficiencies so that the team's focus is on value-add activities, working closely with the Head of Financial Control and Operational Finance teams to achieve this.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management of a team of four responsible for financial accounting and control processes, for example balance sheet reconciliations and day to day bookkeeping.
  • Development of a team of four people, one of whom is qualified. The role will involve supporting these individuals not only with the performance of their roles but with the development of their careers.
  • Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations for key account balances, including bank reconciliations, across the UK Urban Property, Group Team and Diversified Property Investment businesses.
  • Ensuring account balances for which the role is responsible are consistently of a high standard, such that the business can be provided with impactful reporting and generate insight which supports business performance.
  • Working with the Head of Group Reporting and UK Reporting Manager to ensure that the Group Accounting Policies manual is followed at all times.
  • Delivery of statutory accounts and pension scheme accounts at the year-end, liaising with the external auditors to ensure that these are delivered to timetable.
  • Finding ways to improve efficiency or automate repetitive tasks performed by the team. This will include interactions with the Property and Financial System transformation project, to help delivery quick wins to The Finance Centre during design and implementation.
Key Requirements
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with some post-qualified experience, or qualified by experience
  • Strong people manager, with a passion for developing junior staff members
  • Ability to quickly understand and critically assess processes and procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail, instilling the same skill in junior staff members
  • Innovative thinker with a track record of delivering process improvements, operating with a growth mindset
  • Operates with an open mind, working with a diverse team and stakeholders in a manner which is inclusive
  • Property experience desirable but not essential.
