Nature and Scope:

Under the supervision of the Branch Executive Directors and in collaboration with the assigned Group Vice President and in association with the Metro Atlanta YMCA Financial Development Department, the Financial Development Director has the responsibility for the strategic positioning, implementation and success of the branch fundraising efforts including annual and capital campaigns, planned giving, and endowment for YMCAs within an assigned region. This includes long range and short range planning, goal setting, implementation, communication and evaluation of the financial development program cycles.  The Financial Development Director will assist Branch Executive Directors in the strengthening of branch advisory boards thru recruitment, engagement and retention of high value volunteer advisory board members.  The Financial Development Director will communicate with all levels of staff, volunteers and membership; plays a major role in the strategic positioning of the branch to meet community needs and fiscal goals.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in related field with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience to include major gifts ($1,000+), volunteer management and board development.
  • Proven successful track record in raising money from foundations, corporations and individuals with increasing dollar amounts annually with documented experience in developing and managing a prospect pipeline.
  • Exceptional human relations with strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability and desire to build strong and lasting relationships with donors and volunteers
  • Excellent leadership, planning and organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priority projects with excellent judgment and attention to detail
  • Ability to create and implement an internal/external marketing campaign to include donor solicitation, stewardship, impact reports, etc.
  • Familiarity with the face-to-face fundraising model is preferred
  • Ability to exercise good judgment; be a high energy team member, demonstrate initiative, and handle sensitive data in a trustworthy manner
  • Pass a criminal background and drug screening check
  • Pass an MVR and have own transportation
  • CPR within 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning

    In consultation with branch leadership, association leadership and volunteer leadership, develops short term and long range goals for all fundraising campaigns, annual and capital. Writes financial development plan in collaboration with association Financial Development team to meet the goals.

    Ability to place fundraising strategically as part of a branch master strategic plan.

    In consultation with volunteer leadership and branch sr. management, develop comprehensive communication strategies for current and prospective donors.

    In developing all plans, will integrate the Association’s overall strategic financial development plan and follow best practices as identified by the YMCA’s Metro Chief Advancement Officer.

  • Financial Development & Fundraising

    In partnership with the Executive Directors and association Financial Development team, develop and execute a comprehensive fund raising plan to advance the region’s development program annually with elements that include year over year growth through donor prospecting, cultivation and stewardship.

    Create, implement, train and evaluate teams of fundraisers both volunteer and staff in capital and annual campaigns and increase both the number of volunteers and amount raised in the annual campaign

    Develop a strong presence in the community through effective networking, relationship-building, and storytelling.

    Write the case for support and be able to effectively communicate the case to volunteers, staff and donors and potential donors.

    Include in each master plan the capacity to reach more potential donors, business community and membership.

    With volunteers or key staff, make personal calls or deliver skilled presentations to various community groups, potential donors as part of an on-going cultivation plan.

    Include planned giving and endowment as part of a comprehensive fundraising program.

    In consort with the Branch Executive, help to strengthen the board by identifying and helping to recruit key board members to help with the fundraising effort.

    Sustain the professional discipline inherent in successful campaigns.

    Coordinate all foundation and corporate solicitations with the association Financial Development team to make sure every prospective donor only gets one ask

  • Reviews and revises as appropriate, fundraising databases, records, files, correspondence, etc. 
  • Communicates to volunteers, donors and staff
  • Develops agenda items and attend all departmental, staff and branch meetings as assigned.
  • Leads the branch financial development initiatives to include serving as staff liaison with board committees, community groups or other task forces as assigned.
  • Actively participates in association Financial Development Cabinet and serves as the primary interface with the association financial development team
  • Creates, initiates and evaluates branch special events tied to the fundraising department.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporter and risk management
  • Demonstrates competencies and willingness to develop in cause driven leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growth.
  • Demonstrate the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility in all dealings with members, volunteers and staff
  • Other duties as assigned.

Successful completion of any and all fundraising will result in the branch meeting all fundraising requirements in annual and capital, planned giving and endowment to position to the branch to continue to meet the needs of the community. The board will experience a high degree of satisfaction in their fundraising efforts and will have all that they need to be successful fundraisers.  The individual branch advisory boards will grow in stature and ability to impact the Y’s mission within in the community.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy.
