Financial Services Tax Senior Manager / Associate Director – Banking (Happy to discuss flexible working)

Grant Thornton’s Financial Services (FS) Tax practice provides tax advisory, transactions and compliance services to a variety of clients in the Financial Services market ranging from large international banks, asset managers and insurance companies to UK based private equity and alternative funds, as well as start-up fintech companies. We combine technical expertise with a commercial approach based on experience and deep industry understanding.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Senior Manager / Associate Director to help deliver tax services to our Banking sector clients. Clients include Banks, Fin-techs and alternative lenders, and may involve any aspects of UK corporation tax, international tax, and wider cross-discipline projects.

Part of the role will focus on working alongside the partner group in growing out the practice, building strong client relationships within the current and target client base. Working in practice means that the job is, by its nature, different every day and we want someone who is actively looking for this challenge. An agile approach to working with different projects and people is therefore essential.

A look into the role


As a Banking Tax Senior Manager / Associate Director within our Financial Services Tax team you will:

  • help financial services businesses to optimise their tax position, manage tax risk and meet tax compliance obligations - from UK / international tax structuring considerations to operational tax issues.

  • manage your own diverse client portfolio, ensuring a high level of client service.

  • identify opportunities in the banking market to strengthen portfolio.

  • assist in winning working by proactively managing existing relationships and contributing to winning new clients.

  • develop strong internal network to maximise opportunities across the group.

Knowing you’re right for us

Joining us as a Senior Manager / Associate Director the minimum criteria you’ll need is a professional qualification (CTA / ACA / ACCA or equivalent), and to be confident managing a portfolio of clients. It would be great if you also had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.

  • Knowledge and experience in relation to banking businesses. Knowledge of the bank surcharge, bank levy, CATA adjustments preferable but not essential;

  • Strong tax accounting skills under FRS 102/ IFRS, and experience of group consolidations;

  • A track record of leading relevant projects in the banking sector, with a focus on accountability, high quality and timely delivery;

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (internally and externally) and be a team player; strong interpersonal skills are required in addition to strong oral and written communication skills;

  • A strong desire to gain and continually improve knowledge of banking products, operations and taxes;

  • Willingness to assist the wider FS tax practice with ad hoc projects as required – fund structuring, asset management etc.
