Location: Waltham on the Wolds

Contract length: 12 month contract

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday 09.00am - 17.00pm onsite

(Please note you will be required to be on call on a Rota system for evenings and weekends - however, this would be only on an emergency basis)

Rate: £16.00 - £17.95ph

Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services are currently recruiting for a Fish Research Scientist on behalf of a global Manufacturing company. This is a Hybrid working position with the office located in Waltham on the Wolds.

The successful Fish Scientist will develop and manage approved research projects within the fish care science research portfolio. Communicate relevant scientific findings to key business and external audiences through written works and oral presentations. To provide scientific Fish care expertise and advice within Waltham and the global Pet care business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To initiate, gain approval for, resource, manage and report internal and external research projects in fish biology (i.e. physiology, behaviour, welfare) to deliver against the strategic goals of company Fish care
  • To have broad based laboratory skills and experience.
  • Communicate research outputs to key internal audiences through internal business reports and verbal communications.
  • Communicate research outputs to external audiences through presentations at scientific meetings and publication in peer reviewed journals.
  • Act as a subject matter expert providing advice and technical support to the global Mars Pet care business.
  • Formulate, design and direct several agreed internal and external research projects in line with the agreed strategic research portfolio, utilising both internal and external expertise.
  • Develop new methodologies and capabilities alone or in collaboration with others that advance of knowledge of fish care and support our current product portfolio
  • Provide appropriate critical analysis and communication of project results, information and business implications through reports, presentations and publications to senior management, internal units and/or external bodies.
  • Define, negotiate and supervise appropriate resources for successful implementation of projects.
  • The job holder must maintain awareness of new developments in fish biology, husbandry, welfare, physiology and behaviour. It is anticipated that they will produce position statements and recommendations on key, relevant issues and/or opportunities based on reviews of all relevant internal and external information / literature, and knowledge from external networks to ensure that the business is informed of current issues and/or opportunities in fish research.

Key Skills and Experience required:

  • MSc essential, PhD preferred, in animal biology, physiology, behaviour, health and welfare or related biological science with proven relevant experience is required. Experience and knowledge with fish is preferred.
  • Experience of fish husbandry, handling fish, is essential.
  • Experience in designing and managing research projects to answer broad scientific questions.
  • Outstanding drive for results and organisational skills, with a proven track record in scientific research delivery.
  • Experience using statistical packages such as ‘R’.
  • Laboratory skills are desirable i.e. microbiology.
  • Proven scientific output and the ability to communicate complex science verbally and through written materials, to a variety of audiences including expert and non-technical audiences.
