Flagship Labs 97 Inc. (FL97) is a privately held, early-stage company pioneering the application of artificial intelligence to transform all science. Our Physical Sciences effort is developing a novel AI and data-driven approach to materials discovery and development to accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy.

Responsibilities
- Operate a suite of instrumentation for materials synthesis and characterization
- Work with the experimental team to validate synthesis and perform characterization of target materials
- Work across multiple experiment workflows in parallel
- Monitor manual and automated data acquisition streams to actively assess data quality
- Adhere to data quality best practices
- Work with the automation team to evolve workflows from manual, to human-in-the-loop automation, to autonomous experimentation
- Work with the computational team to establish data processing and data interpretation methods that are suitable for automation
- Analyze, report, and present findings of experiments to the FL96 research team
Qualifications
- Hands-on and direct experience working with characterization techniques, including powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and its integration with electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS)
- Experience with interpretation of data from XRD, SEM, EDS, etc. experiments to establish the composition, crystal structure, microstructure, and morphology of materials
- Experience with mechanical property testing including nanoindentation
- Knowledge of solid-state phase diagrams and their utilization in assessing composition-structure-property relationships
- PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
- Strong self-starter and independent thinker, with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated industry experience or academic achievement, as evidenced by publications in quality journals
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner
- Eager to work with highly skilled and dynamic teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and technical setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with scanning probe microscopy techniques
- Experience with thin film and nanoparticle synthesis techniques
- Experience with maintenance and safe operation of vacuum instrumentation and lasers
- Experience with experiment automation
- Experience with coding and data visualization
