Description

The Fleet Director will lead a cross functional core team to deliver contractual obligations including the fleet on a daily basis for our customers. This includes full accountability for fleet availability, reliability, maintenance, safety, engineering, and train presentation.

Responsible for leading the delivery of contractual obligations and financial targets for designated programmes and projects including the establishment of strategic goals and formulating plans to ensure wider business objectives are met.

Accountabilities

  • Deliver contractual obligations, ensuring financial targets are consistently achieved and, where they fall short, take appropriate remedial action to drive improvement.
  • Support business activity undertaking analysis of financial and contractual information, assessing, making recommendations and putting in place actions in order to mitigate commercial risk.
  • Lead continuous improvement across the allocated programmes in order to mitigate risk and exploit opportunities.
  • Ensure flow-down of contractual requirements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Legal Counsel concerning all agreements and other relevant legal aspects
  • Ensure timely submission of bids and proposals, including effective contract execution, whilst maintaining compliance with applicable Train Services Agreements (TSA) and legal requirements.
  • Lead on pricing strategies, taking into consideration customer needs and business requirements in order to maximise profit margins.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of senior personnel providing individual coaching, support and development to succeed in their roles.
  • Lead contract negotiations with external customers and suppliers and facilitate the review, drafting and negotiation of contracts including managing Variation Orders (VOs) and change requests from the Operator or Owners
  • Identify, evaluate and understand capability gaps within programmes and individual projects through research and operational analysis.
  • Lead the mobilisation of new business and contracts and ensure that the delivery of new capability is compatible with the realisation of benefits and business outcomes.
  • Design, develop and deliver innovative solutions that focus on the holistic management of capability across all functions and contracts.
  • Optimisation of allocated operational areas and associated maintenance costs.
  • Ensure current capability is sustainable and integrated across the business functions
  • Anticipate, manage and resolve risks and issues and initiate appropriate corrective action.
  • Challenge the existing culture, current processes and procedures to increase asset utilisation and resilience.
  • Lead change and build a collaborative approach and trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, partners and suppliers.
  • Work closely with the wider senior leadership team to improve the performance and reputation of the business.
  • Deputise for Senior Director Projects UK as required.

Essential Requirements:

Competences

  • Substantial experience of working at a senior level and proven track record of delivering large multi-site contracts and leading teams within a fast moving, customer facing organisation.
  • Astute contractual and commercial awareness and demonstrable business acumen.
  • Proven relationship management experience, with internal and external stakeholders with conflicting priorities.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of operating within UK rail or similar industry.
  • Ability to develop and implement plans that deliver against global strategic objectives.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to build and manage effective relationships.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and strong analytical skills.
  • Experienced in working with data sets, understanding and manipulating them.
  • Be highly organised and structured to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Proven background in presenting complex information to senior executive level.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan effectively and apply judgement and experience to make effective and timely decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: must have ability to deliver confident and persuasive briefs up to senior executive level.
  • Excellent leadership and ability to influence diverse teams.
  • Ability to act with a significant level of autonomy.
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
  • Resilient and able to work in a challenging environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience of programme and project management
  • Master’s degree in business or related field (MBA)
