Over 90% of everything we use is brought to us by sea: our phones, cars, cups of coffee, the bricks that make up our homes – and the PPE equipment we used during the Covid pandemic!

The funds we raise support the key workers of the sea - the world’s 1.89 million seafarers are at the heart of the international supply chain and global economy - we all rely on seafarers and they rely on us.

Hidden behind port walls or away at sea, most of us don’t give these men and women a second thought. But this invisible workforce is vast and so is its impact on our lives. Our mission is to meet the welfare and wellbeing needs of seafarers, their families and the communities they live in at home, in port and at sea.

Key Responsibilities include:

To support the delivery of the fundraising plan.

Manage a portfolio of small trusts to achieve agreed income targets.

Ensure that high-quality, accurate and compelling funding proposals and reports are submitted.

  • To support the building of a pipeline of activities across fundraising streams.
  • To support participants taking part in our events to ensure they meet, and surpass, their fundraising targets.
  • To help ‘sell’ advertising opportunities and other sponsorship benefits.
  • To help grow our community support network and church community through targeted activities.
  • To attend local events to promote the work of the Society and act as an ambassador for the charity.

Person Specification to include:

This post requires an individual who wants to generate income across a number of fundraising specialisms, including trusts & foundations, event management, legacies, corporates and individual giving. It would best suit a driven individual who can adapt to the needs of the organisation and is both proactive and reactive to new opportunities.

  • Previous experience working in a fundraising role (paid or voluntary).
  • Very strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and juggle a varied workload
  • Excellent written skills to create accurate, powerful, compelling and persuasive copy in a range of formats.
  • Experience of working to targets and ability to work independently to achieve goals
  • Excellent research abilities and prospecting skills and the ability to develop a pipeline of activity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels.
