Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an inspirational leader to join our leadership team in our Trust wide Acute Directorate on a 1 year secondment or fixed term contract.

This role is fundamental in achieving success through our improvement journey and needs someone who is skilled at building and sustaining internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and strategic partners.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the professional heads and the Deputy Service Director and Matrons to provide demonstrable assurance that the quality of the clinical services including patient safety, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes meet the required high standards. General Managers will have a portfolio of services that they are responsible for so will need to understand the ongoing transformation work that is currently being implemented along with a genuine interest in performance so that they can support the Teams in working towards the agreed Key Performance Indicators.

Working with the Senior Management Team, and reporting to the Service Director, they will ensure that services are fit for purpose and that the inpatient wards they are responsible for are well managed with motivated staff delivering excellent care to patients and working efficiently with the support of the Matrons. They will need to be visible providing line management leadership to Matrons to ensure excellent clinical outcomes and good levels of engagement.

Main duties of the job

General Managers are responsible for the overall management of a range of nominated services within the Directorate. Working closely with colleagues in all other relevant teams will ensure excellent clinical, operational, and financial outcomes. The post-holder will be expected to work as part of the Senior Leadership Team with other General Managers, the Deputy Director, the Head of Nursing & Quality, the Allied Health Professional Lead, the Lead Psychologist, and Clinical and Service Directors.

The post-holder will also have a key role in liaising with and supporting Local Care Partnerships in the integration agenda.

Person specification

Education

  • First Degree.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development to Master’s level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of professional development in Leadership/Management.

Experience

  • Significant experience of managing clinical health and/or social care services.
  • Experience of working successfully in managing and coordinating a range of complex, multidisciplinary clinical services.
  • Experience of change management and workforce redesign.
  • Experience of performance management of service delivery, staff, and processes to ensure local and national targets are consistently achieved.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of performance management methods/procedures.
  • Able to set objective measurements and develop monitoring systems to inform the organisation.
  • Able to lead and generate a clear sense of direction for services.
  • Able to demonstrate a genuine commitment to ensuring that services meet the needs of services users and their carers and are delivered with multi-cultural sensitivity.

The Induction programme will provide an excellent opportunity for new staff to meet and engage with KMPT’s subject specialists and include the required training.

The programme may involve some travel to the various training venues across Kent and Medway, the main ones being Canterbury, Maidstone, and Dartford.
