About this career opportunity…

We’re looking for a global media relations manager to join our Arup group integrated communications team – working closely with everyone from our social team to internal colleagues to deliver strategic campaigns with global impact. You will collaborate with business leaders, partners and marketers around the world to build and protect the reputation of the firm – primarily via media relations activities. 

You will play a key role in identifying and creating strategic content, working with senior leaders and communications colleagues around the world. Specifically, you will be able to design and deliver content that works for international/national newspapers, broadcast outlets and leading business, tech and other high reach media platforms. You will collaborate with colleagues to ensure this content is amplified across all other communication channels. You will also play an important role in managing our retained PR agency. You’ll partner and collaborate with media relations colleagues in different countries around the world to support them in driving their strategic media relations activities.

You will make an impact in this role by:

  • Partnering with senior global leaders to raise profiling resulting in on-going media coverage in “top tier” media outlets and/or strategically important trade titles.
  • Building long-term relationships with key journalists, in particularly those producing film content that reaches mass audiences. 
  • Managing and co-creating multi-region, media-led campaigns, working with colleagues in other regions to gain traction in their media.
  • Play an active and engaging role to build and strengthen relations with PR/marketing colleagues in the regions – working with them to strengthen their media relations activities. 
  • Supporting strengthening our measurement and evaluation processes to help show the impact of global media relations strategy globally. 
  • Advising clients/partner organisations on how to maximise the potential newsworthiness of research/announcements. 

Is this role right for you? 

If so, you'll likey have

  • Strong PR experience with a focus on media relations, ideally gained from a mix of in-house and agency. 
  • Experience in managing and being part of a global media relations PR team with an appreciation of how different markets engage with media, and an appreciation of how global and regional teams work in harmony to achieve common goals. 
  • Experience in successfully delivering global campaigns across multiple markets. 
  • A collaborator with a strong emphasis on relationships to engage colleagues, journalists and other third parties around the world in our global media approach.
  • Evidence of enabling and empowering specialists in media teams/press offices around the world to achieve a continuous stream of media coverage in “top tier” media outlets (beyond specialist trade media) – national newspapers, broadcast, mass-reach media platforms, leading design and tech titles etc.
  • Skilled at translating technical reports into engaging content that gains traction in target titles 
  • Effective in managing communications agency and other third-party suppliers – including designers, copywriters and research organisations. 
  • Understands how to use data to measure and evaluate campaigns. 
  • Able to influence senior leaders and provide counsel; strong written, verbal, analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills essential.
  • Ideally holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public and Media Relations (Chartered Institute of PR accredited).
