An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the experienced and dynamic Cubico renewables development team as a Renewables Grid Connections Manager based at our office in Manchester, although other flexible working arrangements will be considered. In return, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package with the opportunity to become a key member of the renewable energy development team managing grid connection activities on a diverse range of onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects across the UK.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working in the electricity network and/or power generation industry in the UK and will be a commercially astute self-starter able to make an immediate contribution in identifying and securing new grid connections for greenfield projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage on grid connection activities, including private wire and behind-the-meter connections, across the onshore wind, solar and battery storage portfolio.
  • Work alongside the development team to improve site finding, including updating and maintaining the companies database of transmission and distribution grid infrastructure information.
  • Support the team on a holistic approach to site finding with a view to identifying suitable sites where there is potential import and export capacity, points of connection and optimising grid connection solutions for projects.
  • Assess early-stage project opportunities through feasibility studies, liaising with network operators and working with third party consultants, where required. Prepare and manage DNO and TO budget estimate requests, grid connection applications and offers.
  • Interpret and advise the team on connection offers and identify project risks from a technical and commercial perspective.
  • Contract and relationship management for development schemes including moving sites through the BEGA and Mod App process, reporting on milestones and managing development risk.
  • Support the wider Cubico team in delivering grid connections and electrical design solutions for other large-scale infrastructure projects from site identification through to construction.
  • Provide electrical engineering advice at the design, procurement and construction stages of project delivery.
  • Advise on regulatory changes and future network development by liaising with network operators and OFGEM, to support and inform the activities of the renewables team.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Working knowledge and experience of the distribution and/or transmission system or electricity generation industry in the UK
  • Knowledge and understanding of HV technical parameters of renewable energy generation to secure and deliver cost-effective grid connections and engineering solutions for projects
  • Close working relationships with existing distribution and/or transmission network operators and ICP’s would be desirable
  • Well-rounded with demonstrable commercial and risk management skills
  • Strong computer literacy skills.
  • Well organised, self-motivated and have a good attention to detail.
  • Be commercially astute and have strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and presentation skills internally and with third parties.
  • Good communicator with the ability to build and maintain relationships internally and externally
  • Innovative with entrepreneurial spirit
  • Degree and/or HND/HNC in electrical engineering, power systems or other related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexible and willing to travel across the UK to meet external stakeholders
