Group ESG Reporting Analyst

Location: London or Cape Town

Full time Staff Position

The role will own and manage the ESG Reporting required for the business. This includes all aspects of data collection, analysis, reporting and auditing to meet existing and future needs of the business. Existing reporting includes our annual Sustainability Report, and ESSG & Climate Committee and Shareholders Annual Monitoring Report (AMR), and monthly and quarterly environmental and social reporting on business performance. The role will also include support on GHG Accounting and other elements of climate-related reporting. Over time the role may take the leading role in the preparation of the businesses annual Sustainability Report. The Analyst will be responsible within the company for evaluating and ensuring the quality and consistency of company wide information on environment, social, sustainability, GHG emissions, and impact metrics.

Main Responsibilities

The responsibilities will be focused on all the company's operations and corporate functions, with specific focus on ESG Reporting. The role will include but is not limited to the following key areas:

Group ESG Reporting:

  • Data collection, processing and consolidation for the Shareholder's AMR and Sustainability Report (and other reporting needs as they develop). This includes support on the collection of non-ESG related data that is required for non-financial annual reporting.
  • Optimizing data quality, collection processes and systems to minimize the reporting workload for the power plant staff, while simultaneously ensuring continuous improvement of data quality.
  • Preparing data on of the Group ESG performance for reporting to the ESSG & Climate Committee, Companywide meetings, team meetings and other forums as the need may arise.
  • Helping define meaningful ESG targets, track performance, and report to the ESSG & Climate Committee/Board
  • Keeping the company's impact measurement framework and reporting relevant and up to date, based on latest trends and requirements.
  • Actively follow external ESG reporting trends, and if needed guide on required changes for the company.
  • Supporting the various initiatives where ESG reporting can create (monetary) value for the Group.
  • Supporting the Group ESG Operations Manager in matters relating to E&S systems and performance at the companies operational plants, and where requested support any continuous improvement of ESG aspects at our operations.
  • Owning and maintaining the companies ESG Reporting systems (incl. processes and procedures), currently in IFS and SharePoint. Manage any system and process improvements as required.
  • Taking responsibility for any ESG data audits or assurance as and when required.
  • Supporting the integration of ESG and particularly climate in the financial statement reporting, risk and other initiatives and requirements.


Supporting the climate change lead on climate-related reporting, namely:

  • Taking responsibility for all data collection to support the GHG Accounting, calculate the company's GHG footprint on an annual basis, and support any initiatives to expand GHG Footprint Accounting.
  • Supporting the preparation of TCFD (and other climate) reporting for the company, and where relevant its public disclosure.
  • Supporting the tracking of climate-related metrics and targets.


Monitoring the monthly ESG performance of operational assets by:

  • Providing the operating assets with up-to-date data templates for their ESG related annual and monthly reporting.
  • Reviewing all operating assets monthly reporting and provide timely feedback as appropriate.
  • Collecting and interrogating all data and presenting trends and issues that require management attention or support.


Skills, Competencies

  • A passion for ESG topics coupled with a strong social and/or environmental subject matter knowledge
  • A highly analytical mindset with strong numerical skills, and the ability to process complex information into easy, communicable, and presentable format is essential.
  • Knowledge of the ESG reporting sector is important, in-depth knowledge or experience on the implementation of any significant ESG reporting/disclosure frameworks such as the GRI, ISSB, CSRD, CDP, TCFD, TNFD is advantageous.
  • An understanding of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting standard, or equivalent, and their implementation is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with international E&S standards such as the IFC performance standards and World Bank EHS guidelines is advantageous but not required.
  • An understanding of the ESG challenges faced by developing countries, with knowledge of the specific challenges faced in Africa and the African power sector an advantage.
  • The ability to manage internal stakeholders to build and sustain relationships at all levels of seniority to enable good performance, quality reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Strong team working skills and the ability to collaborate with others to deliver projects
  • Excellent communication skills, specifically clear and concise verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • A goal-focused and proactive mindset with the ability be adaptive and creative in solving problems is essential to this role.
  • French and/or Portuguese language skills are advantageous but not required.


Minimum Requirements

 

  • University Degree (Bachelors or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, preferably sustainability, environmental or climate sciences, engineering or power/energy related. A master's degree is advantageous but not required;
  • Experience in a related field (ESG reporting, climate change, sustainability), preferably within infrastructure operations, consulting, or the investment industry.
  • Experience in the implementation of ESG reporting frameworks or standards is advantageous but not required.
  • Competency with Excel is essential.
  • Experience using IFS, other ERPs or ESG reporting software is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills
