Arena Racing Company was created in 2012, and has been a racing industry pioneer, developing new race series such as the All-Weather Championships and the all-ladies Silk Series. Our racing business has grown with the acquisition of racecourses and is the UK’s largest racecourse group. About the role

The role of the Group Financial Controller is to ensure strong accounting and reporting throughout the group, including overseeing and monitoring an effective control environment, manage the finance team and providing strategic information and advice to the management team.

Key responsibilities for the role will include

  • Implementing and maintaining highest quality financial controls throughout the business
  • Maintain and develop internal control policy
  • Reviewing the financial statements under IFRS and FRS
  • Review of timely consolidated management accounts and board reports
  • Analyse financial performance against agreed KPIs and produce consolidated financial reports highlighting exceptions and any areas of concern with recommended solutions
  • Control of business systems providing insight and challenge
  • Regulatory Returns and maintenance of financial analysis framework
  • Oversight of day to day accounting entries and maintenance of ledger
  • Lead and manage the financial and management accounting teams, setting relevant and stretching performance targets and managing individual and team performance against those targets in order to deliver Operational targets, Financial targets and budgets, KPIs, SLAs and other approved metrics

Profile and behaviours

  • Fully qualified accountant, 5 years + PQE
  • Proven experience as a Group Financial Controller
  • Working in depth knowledge of reporting standards IRFS and FRS 102
  • Have previously managed and mentored finance teams
  • Take initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Team player with pronounced numerical affinity and accuracy
  • Previous experience with ERP systems (Exchequer) an advantage
