Job Description

We’re on the lookout for a Head of Content eager to join our growing team of digital marketing professionals. A shit-hot one. Someone whose prose can lead boats to rocks and products to baskets. Someone who can write about ethical, pioneering products designed to revolutionise the world and also, probably, fish tank filters. You never know which clients are around the corner - and their opportunity for money, too. We need someone who makes our clients money with their hands (typing).

The role

  • With Technical and PR experts already in place, you will manage the third pillar of our SEO service, Content, and help us take our offering to the next level. You’ll play a key part in our SEO team with your focus being on auditing, planning, researching and producing quality SEO-focused content
  • You’ll be balancing your time between thinking (research, strategy, analysis, etc.) and doing (copywriting, briefing designers, etc.), all the while considering SEO objectives and working closely with Tech SEO and Digital PR teams. We don’t write for the sake of it – we produce content to make a commercial impact
  • You will need to work out what Content a website needs in order to generate more business from Organic Search and use your creative mind to come up with fresh ideas that deliver results
  • The content you plan and deliver will range from blog posts and product descriptions through to creative campaigns to support our link building efforts (and everything in between). You’ll also help us to produce content for Darkhorse.co, using your own knowledge and that of our team to demonstrate our expertise and brand
  • You’ll also support the other SEO team members, specifically Digital PR with the planning and execution of PR and link building campaigns that will result in a tangible benefit to client’s Organic Search performance. Ultimately, you will be the driving force behind SEO content in the agency and produce the words that make our clients’ money. Lots of money

Are you right for us?

You have the ability to be both a creative and an analytical thinker, understanding what makes people tick, how they search using Google, what is their intent and using that knowledge to produce content that drives engagement. Is this you?

  • Proven track record of writing successful content and ability to use different tones of voice and branded language
  • Understanding of the commercial purpose behind content
  • Copywriting and editing experience
  • High level of understanding of essential SEO auditing practices such as keyword research and content gap analysis

· Experience with website audits, long-term content strategy planning and competitor analysis with a focus on organic search

  • Ahrefs, SEMrush (or equivalent) or willingness to learn
  • Strong overall SEO knowledge and understanding of best practices
  • Good experience using tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Keyword Planner
  • Be comfortable in a client-facing role and managing expectations and budget
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills
  • Creative, and able to run brainstorming sessions and generating lots of great ideas
  • Ability to work and deliver under pressure
  • An English, Creative Writing, Journalism, PR or Marketing degree is a bonus but not essential
  • Creative – someone who remembers that Content is commercial, who knows that the only way to stand out is to think outside the box. Mouth sick at that term but you know what we mean
  • Strong commercial awareness – someone who understands the bigger picture and can spot opportunities to grow business
  • Desire to make a difference for their clients – someone who will not be happy until their clients are
  • Team player – someone who places the success of the team alongside their own success, and is not just able to write ‘able to work individually or as part of a team’ in their CV. If it says that shit in your opening paragraph… No thanks

Are we right for you?

We’re a fast-growing digital marketing agency based in Altrincham (Manchester) specialising in SEO, PPC and Paid Social. Our clients range from small local businesses to international companies. We’re at an exciting stage of growth with new projects starting all the time and big opportunities for the right people. Altrincham is like Manchester, just smaller and less spice. More Guardian readers probably, too. Each to their own.

Content Team is a supporter of the Oxford Comma.

What’s on offer

We think we’ve built a great place to work, where every individual feels rewarded for the effort, they put in. Enjoy this along with:

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience 38k to 45k
  • Leafy Altrincham location
  • Flexitime
  • Birthday off obvs
  • Dark Horse will carbon offset your role with The Dark Forest
  • Working in an amazing team – learning from some fantastic people
  • Other small stuff too – we stuff this bit in a vain attempt to make us look good on LinkedIn. Can’t remember most of it. Socials that’s an example
