The Herald – Head of Content

The full job description covers all associated skills, previous experience, and any qualifications that applicants are expected to have.

Newsquest Scotland is looking for a Head of Content to lead our team of reporters at The Herald, Scotland’s quality broadsheet newspaper.

The Role

The Herald is the longest-running national newspaper in the world, and as our new Head of Content, you will be at the heart of our digital newsroom.

You will be responsible for managing our team of reporters and writers, setting the news agenda with big exclusives, commissioning long reads, explainers and analysis, and above all delivering award-winning journalism.

This is a digital role – you will be responsible for creating and managing a 24-hour content schedule across seven days which is not tied to the publication of our printed editions, which will be managed separately by our Head of Print.

As we target subscription growth, you will work with our Editor to build big audiences and grow our brand lovers, creating quality content which will convert casual and loyal visitors to paying readers.

About You

We need a leader capable of managing change and developing talent, an innovator who can think differently as habits change.

We want a creative candidate who will coach our reporters and writers to tell brilliant stories in a wide variety of formats – and not be tied to what we’ve always done.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with personal skills, the ability to communicate effectively, with a strong understanding of what The Herald stands for, its audience and our editorial tone of voice.
