Head of Financial Controls

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, Convex is looking for an experienced and qualified accountant who can take ownership of the Group’s financial control processes and independently contribute to the overall effectiveness of the global finance function. Convex is a fast-growing organisation and maintaining a robust financial control framework is critical as Convex grows. Key Responsibilities

These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Drive the development and maintenance of an effective financial controls framework.
  • Ensure that appropriate controls are designed, implemented and operated throughout the reporting cycles that mitigate and manage risk effectively.
  • Responsible for the validation of all statutory and regulatory reporting, ensuring close-down procedures are conducted and that all reporting deadlines are met.
  • Own management information to report the effectiveness of the financial controls.
  • Lead the investigation of risk events and develop action plans to address identified weaknesses.
  • Manage controls testing cycles, develop annual testing plans and in-cycle testing.
  • Foster the relationship and interaction with Operational Risk and Internal Audit in respect of financial control processes.
  • Ensure strong financial controls are in place with outsourcing providers, with clear modes of measurement.
  • Senior Stakeholder engagement and lead on projects to deliver improvements in the Financial and operating control environment.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Qualified Accountant with extensive experience of financial controls frameworks, financial reporting, assessing risk in this type of environment, defining effective controls, and delivering process improvements.
  • A strong understanding of non-life insurance.
  • Experience in leading change, be it smaller engagements or components of large, complex operations.
  • Experience identifying business issues, owning responsibility for the quality of deliverables, managing stakeholder relationships, and developing persuasive recommendations.
  • Critical thinking coupled with advanced analysis and problem-solving techniques - business / data analysis and excel skills are essential.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, with business stakeholders.
  • Interest in using new technology as much as possible to automate and improve processes.
  • Simplify complex reporting concepts, overcome operating obstacles, and drive balanced decision making for improvements.
  • Provide valuable insight and new ideas that drive the continuous improvement in how we operate.
