Job Description
As Head of Flight Software you will be manging the UK flight software team; ensuring everyone works together to deliver appropriate solutions, to schedule and cost, across all projects.
As Head of Flight Software you will report to the Engineering Director.
As Head of Flight Software you will generate, oversee and deliver plans for the flight software team projects and missions.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include
- Overall responsibility for the output of the team
- Mentor and encourage the team to grow and develop
- Work with the senior leadership team to identify recruitment and development needs.
- Work with project managers to support costings on new projects and work packages
- Generate and maintain system level budgets (mass, power, data)
- Generate and maintain the requirements and associated design & verification compliance
- Preparing sub-system requirements specification to support procurement.
- Reviewing and modifying FDIR techniques, perform FMEA.
- Adapting the system design from existing mission architectures to meet the needs of the current work
Experience required
- Bachelor or master’s degree in relevant engineering / science discipline.
- Have extensive commercial software engineering experience within the space industry
- Experienced people manager
- A subject expert in the design and architecture of flight software
- Extensive knowledge of embedded software systems programming (C/C++)
- Detailed knowledge of scripting languages such as Python as well as knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, VxWorks and Spacewire
- Knowledge of software engineering verification and validation processes.
- Proven ability to prepare and deliver to project to plan
