This senior role will be the lead on all information governance for Smart DCC, as well as managing data protection requirements across the business. As an experienced data protection professional you will provide thought leadership to our business, ensuring we remain compliant to our data protection obligations as we scale our activities as the Great Britain Smart Metering Licensee.

Reporting to the Director of Security, the Head of Information Governance & Data Protection plays a critical role in overseeing all aspects of data protection compliance at Smart DCC and a trustworthy, confident and influential character is essential.

  • Setting Information Management strategy and requirements
  • Defining and maintaining Data Classification Policy and Standards
  • Maintaining compliance to GDPR and other applicable data protection legislation
  • Development and ownership of the Information Governance framework for Smart DCC
  • Data Protection incident management including liaison with the Capita Data Protection team and other stakeholders
  • Development and maintenance of appropriate policies
  • Working with senior stakeholders and legal to strategically influence information governance across the organisation
  • Provide appropriate monitoring, metrics and management information
  • Deliver effective information governance and data protection awareness to the organisation

Technical Skills

  • Management of all Data Protection Impact Assessments
  • Management of all Subject Access Requests
  • Broad understanding of technology and security controls
  • Incident co-ordination and investigation

Soft Skills

  • Communication skills – being able to effectively communicate (verbal and written)
  • Analytical skills – being able to quickly analyse situations and make appropriate decisions
  • Personal networking skills – being able to quickly gain the confidence of other people and sustain trust
  • Prioritisation – being able to prioritise tasks and remain calm under pressure
  • Continuous improvement – identify and suggest more efficient ways of using the tools and information available to achieve improved outcomes.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of Data Protection management with at least 3 years experience of GDPR compliance
  • Experience of working with internal and external stakeholders to address information management problems through policy, process or behavioural change
  • A background in a similar role such as an Information Manager or Information Security Manager
  • Experience in information security and working within an ISO27001 certified environment
