TERMS: Full time. One-year fixed term contract (maternity cover) to start mid/end of January 2022.

Elrha is a global charity that finds solutions to complex humanitarian problems through research and innovation.

We are looking for a Head of Policy Engagement and Communications to join us at this exciting time, for a one-year maternity cover role. This role would be suitable for someone looking to step into a leadership role or further develop experience of organisational and programmatic communications, and someone ready to lead on significant projects that you will develop, shape and add your own unique stamp to during your time with us.

In this role you will lead the communications and engagement function within Elrha managing the Policy Engagement and Communications team. You will play a key role in supporting the development of Elrha’s brand and policy narrative to showcase our impact and influence. You will also actively contribute in extending our reach and audience engagement, so our research and innovation activities can make a difference to people living in crisis settings. You will be joining an ambitions team at a time of new opportunity within Elrha, as we embark on developing our new strategy.

You will be given a high degree of autonomy in your work, so to be successful, you will need to be flexible, creative, and work well in a constantly changing environment. You will bring with you exceptional influencing and negotiation skills, and experience of managing a high performing team. You will advocate for diversity, authenticity and accessibility at the heart of all our communications.

In addition, you will also:

  • Be a passionate and strategic communicator, who can translate and communicate a clear vision, mission and purpose, and bring others with you
  • Influence and shape outputs and activities to have the greatest impact, by understanding audiences and stakeholder messaging
  • Be solutions focused and creative in your approach to how things are done
  • Be collaborative and inclusive, able to build strong and mutual beneficial working relationships
  • Be a source of solid judgement, counsel and advice, able to mitigate and manage reputational risks

If you are passionate about using your communications skills and experience to support the humanitarian community and those affected by crises, and you are looking for a new challenge, then join us to help create positive change in the humanitarian sector – and we will give you every opportunity to succeed.

Please review the full job description for further details. Please ensure you tailor your CV to highlight appropriate skills and experience to the role and complete the personal statement to explain how you think you meet the requirements of the role and why you feel this is the next career move for you.

About Elrha

Elrha is a global charity that finds solutions to complex humanitarian problems through research and innovation. We fund and support projects that go on to shape the way in which people across the world are supported during a crisis. We are based in the UK, but our roles have a global reach. We’re an established and respected part of the humanitarian community, working closely and meaningfully with our fellow networks and actors to make change happen.

Elrha is a wholly owned subsidiary of Save the Children. We are able to benefit from a range of support services provided by Save the Children UK, including recruitment systems. For this reason, you will be directed to Save the Children UK’s job portal upon clicking ‘apply’.

Remote Working

Elrha employees are currently working remotely within the UK in line with UK Government guidance. In early 2022 we will transition to flexible and hybrid ways of working (i.e. a mixture of remote/home and office-based working) as social distancing restrictions ease.

We are happy to discuss flexible working options at interview.

Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Elrha is committed to diversity and equality of opportunity in all aspects of our work both external and internal. We strive to be an inclusive employer and particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups such as returning parents or carers who are re-entering work after a career break, people who are LGBT+, from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, with a disability, impairment, learning difference or long-term condition, with caring responsibilities, from different nations and regions, and from less advantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.

Salaries and benefits

Jobs are positioned within the salary structure on the basis of evaluation. New employees are normally appointed at the bottom of the grade; however, the appointed salary may also take into account the relevant experience a candidate brings to a role when this exceeds our expectations. Elrha is committed to paying staff in a fair and equitable way and will benchmark all salary offers in line with the pay of existing staff.

Elrha also has a comprehensive benefits package including 25 days holiday entitlement which increases year on year, up to 5% employer pension contribution (3% employee contribution) and life cover.

Pre-employment Checks

We have a responsibility to ensure that all our employees have the right to work in the UK before and during their employment. Proof of right to work will not be undertaken at the initial stage but all necessary checks to confirm the eligibility to work in the UK will take place prior to employment.

Any Employment with Elrha will also be subject to the following checks prior to your start date:

  • a satisfactory police record check to include a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and/or an International Criminal Record Check (If applicable)
  • receipt of satisfactory references
