Job Description

We are delighted to be partnering with a well-known challenger food business in their search for a Head of Procurement. In this role, you will manage a small, growing team and a spend across ingredients, packaging, 3PL, 3PM and indirect categories. You will be with the Midlands-based team 3 days per week, plus supplier visits and occasional travel to London.


As a member of the leadership team, you will have the opportunity to positively impact the future of the organisation by collaborating closely with all functions. As such, this role requires significant operational and strategic sourcing experience (primarily direct categories) gained from professional, established FMCG organisations.


The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of procurement best practice, market dynamics, and supplier management. They will be an exceptional negotiator, with a track record of building strong, strategic relationships that consistently deliver results – both internally and externally. The successful individual will be able to demonstrate a highly analytical and numerate leader skillset, with an ability to work at pace and communicate confidently with a wide variety of stakeholders.


Leadership responsibilities


  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing Procurement team that’s integral to the company and a true business partner in the organisation.
  • Develop, lead, coach and mentor direct reports. Provide similar partnership to relevant teams across the business as you work to establish the role of Procurement.
  • Ensure all team members have personal development plans and conduct formal and informal performance reviews with all team members.


Procurement responsibilities


  • Define the 5-year Procurement strategy and plans across all categories to deliver against the business objectives.
  • Deliver the procurement annual budget.
  • Risk management: Monitor market trends, supplier performance, and industry dynamics to proactively identify risks and opportunities to the budget delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the business, acting as a role model around quality and process standards.
  • Lead the sourcing cycle for all annual buys, engaging negotiation teams when relevant; driving an effective negotiation process.
  • Ensure the team is supported and equipped to negotiate annual contracts with suppliers to achieve the most competitive pricing and strong availability across all Procurement categories.
  • For key strategic suppliers, you will take the lead on the annual negotiation.
  • Develop and implement rigorous contracts (MSAs & annual contracts), incorporating service level agreements and continuous improvement targets.
  • Employ a robust supplier management programme to support innovation and sustainability ambitions.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and finance leadership to deliver against business plans.
  • Influence at a senior management level so that teams deliver together, exceptionally well – every time.
  • Develop and continuously improve procurement processes, procedures, systems, governance and tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
