Are you the A Player to join us on our new mission?

The Opportunity:

We are launching a new book publishing venture in partnership with one of the world's largest publishers.

This non-fiction imprint is focused on a social-first approach, AI, data and experimentation to help authors produce globally successful books that create a healthier, happier, whole human experience. We're designing a new approach to acquiring titles, supporting authors, and using state of the art social media methodologies to enable their work to reach its potential.

We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our exciting team as Head of Publishing. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire publishing process, from acquisitions to contracting, editing, distribution, marketing, and revenue forecasts. You will collaborate within the organisation and work closely with our partner publishing group, to ensure the successful release of the books and the sustainable growth of the imprint. This is an exciting opportunity to join a genuinely innovative team and make a significant impact on our growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the publishing strategy to drive revenue growth and expand our market presence.
  • Identify new talents: draw on trend, audience, and platform data to find experts with unique voices and ideas. Move swiftly to sign them up as authors for the imprint.
  • Collaborate with authors, editors, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of books across print, digital and audio.
  • Be read to apply new and experimental approaches and tools to every aspect of the publishing process, including editorial.
  • Oversee the production and distribution of all our content and publishing, ensuring they meet quality standards and deadlines.
  • Work closely with the marketing team and our partner publisher to develop and execute effective book launch campaigns, and ongoing promotion for key titles.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and competitor analysis to identify new opportunities and improve our publishing operations.
  • Monitor and analyse the performance of our publishing, using data-driven insights to inform decision-making and optimise results.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a senior non-fiction publishing or agenting role, with a strong track record of finding talent, creating bestsellers and expanding market presence.
  • Ability to spot a rising talent, and to see/shape an idea into a winning book proposition.
  • Deep knowledge of the UK, US and international media and publishing landscape, including digital and social media platforms.
  • Direct experience of the book publishing process, including acquisitions, editing, design, production, comms, and distribution.
  • Track record in negotiating and agreeing publishing contracts, with understanding of industry-standard rights and royalties frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with authors, staff, and external partners.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically to solve problems and overcome challenges in the publishing industry.
  • A passion and deep understanding of the market and audience for our content.

Location:

  • London - Shoreditch ~ we are an in-person-first culture and believe in fostering a vibrant and work environment centred around connection and community.
  • Some roles will require global travel so flexibility in this aspect is important and your hiring manager will confirm this with you during the interview process

Our Values:

Our first principles and values for every person in our company no matter their tenure, experience or status, are the same.

You will be an endlessly ambitious, passionate professional. An emotionally intelligent, resilient leader and a trusted, empathetic co worker. A life-long student of your craft no matter whether it’s day 1 or day 1001. A brave, proactive experimentalist, obsessed with the 1% and marginal gains. An open, compelling, collaborative communicator, an attentive listener and friend.

How We Work:

We believe our company and our people have unlimited potential. This potential and the opportunity ahead of us will not be based on luck but on intention. An intention to bring together an exceptional team of people. A team of people who bring a diversity of lived experiences, heritage, backgrounds, and thought to our collective mission. Our commitment to our people is to ensure they have everything they need to thrive here. Not just within the walls of our company but also out in a changing world.

If you require reasonable accommodation during the application and selection process, please let us know. We will work together to best meet your needs.

The Process:

We appreciate the time taken to apply for the role. We will review all applications within five working days and be in touch with those who have been shortlisted to the next stage. Some stages of our interviews will require either a task-based scenario or evidence of your work and capabilities. Unfortunately, due to volume we are not able to get back to everyone individually so if you have not heard back from us unfortunately you have not been successful on this occasion and wish you all the best in your search.
