We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Sustainability to develop and deliver the University’s sustainability strategy. With a budget of £8-£10 million, you will be responsible for ensuring the provision of energy, water services and CHP/district heating maintenance meets strategic requirements. You will also be responsible for identifying, securing and managing funding solutions to enable the continued roll out of energy reduction projects and project manage energy reduction initiatives. This post is available immediately on a full-time, indefinite basis.


As the Head of Sustainability you will manage the day-to-day operation of the University’s district systems including CPS and CCL compliance, provide technical input into engineering, building and building services designs and manage statutory compliance and energy reduction initiatives. You will work effectively and in collaboration with key stakeholders and colleagues to optimise our delivery model and lead relevant project meetings.


You will have a degree (or equivalent qualification or experience) in an Energy or Engineering discipline with experience in utility purchasing and invoice processes for a large organisation. The ability to think critically and creatively, with experience of EU ETS, CRC EES and/or CHPQA and knowledge in relevant legislative compliance requirements and Health and safety awareness is essential. Project Management experience and Leadership and Management skills, with the ability to influence to effect change are also crucial for this role. Experience in writing an Energy strategy, undertaking Energy audits and/or experience in procuring energy services in Higher Education would be advantageous.


To assist with the University’s legal carbon compliance, this role will require the successful candidate to obtain a Basic Disclosure Certificate. Occasional out of ours working will also be required.

Up to £61,805 per annum, dependant on skills and experience
