Job Description

Having officially been awarded Department of Education registration, Neptune School opened in January 2022 and has been very successful in supporting the slow transition of a number of pupils since. The school is an independent co-educational service that provides a therapeutic educational pathway for up to 25 children and young people from Key Stage 2-4. The pupils we support will often have social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, Autism or ADHD, and other associated challenges that impact their ability to learn.

Is your CV ready If so, and you are confident this is the role for you, make sure to apply asap.

Our pupils are now looking for someone to lead their school through the next stage of development, offering them the chance to learn through access to an exciting, meaningful curriculum. They need someone to ensure their Teachers and Teaching Assistants have the tools they require to deliver a first-class educational experience. They need someone who can lead by example, and ensure their school is a happy, safe, engaging place. They need you!

The school underwent its first full Ofsted inspection in March 2023, which was very early in its life and a period when 50% of its pupils had only been in school for one term and were still within their stabilisation phase. Whilst the report indicates that the school “Requires Improvement,” we’re confident that with the right Headteacher, we can improve this rating.

The school currently supports 23 pupils across 8 classrooms. Our aim isn’t just to teach. It’s to offer meaningful skills to support our pupils with their future education, training, and transition toolkit for adult life. Working with our on-site Integrated Therapy Team, which includes Creative Arts and Speech and Language therapy, you will promote a truly multidisciplinary team that places our pupils at the centre of all decision-making.

A Headteacher’s role involves:

  • Leadership – You’ll spend much of your time leading and inspiring the team, using your values-based approach to getting the best out of both pupils and team members within the school. You’ll champion diversity, promote a positive working culture and ensure the school is running smoothly using your strong administrative and organisational skills. You’ll work closely with the Education Operations Team to lead the school to achieve positive regulatory outcomes that simply validate the amazing day-to-day work happening at the school.
  • Education – You’ll set the vison and oversee the school’s curriculum, ensuring it’s fit for purpose. You’ll work with the two Deputy Headteachers, teaching and non-teaching colleagues to ensure they have the skills and resources they require to deliver a first class service. Your data led approach will allow us to evidence the achievements and needs of our pupils, and the meaningful outcomes achieved.
  • Health & Safety – As a leader, you’ll make sure your pupils and team members are looked after through effective health and safety assessments. This may include anything from regulatory health and safety compliance, to making sure you’re supporting colleagues in looking after their own wellbeing.
  • Relationship building – As a leader, you’ll be an outward facing pillar of our community and an ambassador for the wider Phoenix Learning and Care group. You’ll build great relationships with our pupils, their families, team members, the local community and our external stakeholders.

To be a successful Headteacher, you’ll need:

  • To be a degree qualified teacher, with experience leading a setting(s) where pupils have complex needs related to autism and/or mental health difficulties.
  • To have recent experience working in a leadership role within an educational service or school, preferably at Headteacher level.
  • Great communication and networking skills, to be a true relationship builder that people can trust.
  • To be inspirational and committed to improving the lives of others, through inclusive education and support.
  • To be someone that wants to shape a wonderful small school provision to become the best it can be!

In return for your commitment and expertise, you’ll get:

  • Holidays – You’ll get 12.8 weeks (512 hours) annual leave, to be taken outside of term time & on public holidays.
  • Pension scheme – Our Headteacher pension scheme is fixed at 24% and unlike other pensions this is not linked to your personal contribution level.
  • Learning & Development Opportunities – We provide comprehensive learning opportunities for team members to develop themselves.
  • Discounts – You’ll have access to wonderful discounts through the Blue Light Discount Card and our own employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Support – Team member wellbeing is always our priority. You’ll have access to mental health and wellbeing support.
  • Cycle2Work -The cycle to work scheme enables you to buy a bicycle at a discounted rate.
  • DBS – As this role requires you to have an enhanced DBS carried out, we will cover this cost.

Following 12 months service you’ll also be eligible to access our Medicash scheme which covers a wide range of medical, health and wellbeing expenses. You’ll also get life assurance paid at x2 your annual salary and Critical Illness Cover.

Please note that as part of our safer recruitment processes, successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment checks including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check and reference validation.
