Job Title: Health & Safety Manager (North)

Reports to: Health & Safety Director - Europe

Type of role: Field based ideally North England

Salary: Up to £45,000 plus company car

Reporting to the Health & Safety Director, you will lead a regional team of Health & Safety Partners and assist with the development of the Health & Safety Management System and the implementation of the Health & Safety Development Plan.

Your role will be to ensure the Health & Safety Team meets operational targets and objectives and contributes to the development of the organisation’s health & safety culture.

Responsibilities


  • Ensure HSPs provide advice to protect children, staff, and visitors from harm.
  • Implement health & safety and food safety policies and procedures across the organisation.
  • Support HSPs in investigating serious incidents, identifying causes, and embedding lessons learned.
  • Notify the Health & Safety Executive of all reportable accidents and incidents.
  • Lead by example, inspire high standards, and report unsafe practices.
  • Handle sensitive information discreetly and comply with data protection laws.
  • Advise on food and health & safety legal requirements and best practices.
  • Manage and support HSPs in their duties and development.
  • Plan Centre allocations and ensure health & safety cover during absences.
  • Keep the HSD informed of significant incidents and risks.
  • Liaise with Centres and external parties on health and safety issues.
  • Collaborate with NSC teams and participate in improvement projects.
  • Assist in reviewing new site designs for health & safety risks and recommendations.
  • Support Centres and HSPs in safety communications to parents and stakeholders.
  • Deputise for the HSD when needed.
  • Implement and audit the Health & Safety Management System to maintain our ISO 45001 accreditation.
  • Stay updated on changes in legislation and best practice, sharing with the team.
  • Manage and report on the health & safety audit programme, ensuring actions are completed.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders to improve safety standards.
  • Monitor data and trends from incidents and provide improvement recommendations.
  • Train and support senior staff in managing safety, health, and food safety risks.
  • Promote good practices and deliver occupational safety training.
  • Assist in developing robust health, food, and fire safety systems and work with departments on continuous health & safety improvements.
  • Share and embed learning from accidents and incidents.
  • Ensure effective internal and external health & safety communications.



Knowledge & Experience

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent and at least working towards a diploma level occupational health and safety qualification.
  • You will be a member of IOSH or CIEH.
  • Minimum 5 years in a health & safety role.
  • A management qualification is desirable and experience managing a team is essential.
  • Knowledge of UK safety and health legislation, especially in childcare or education.
  • Experience of implementing health & safety management systems and risk management.
  • Practical experience of developing policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication, investigative, and decision-making skills.
  • Valid UK driving license.
