Health & Safety Officer

Location: Sutton Coldfield

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 (DofE)

D7 Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a leading logistics company in the search for a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer. Our client is the largest privately-owned freight carrier in the UK, known for its reliability and quality of service over 20 years. Operating its own extensive logistics network, this company is a key player in the industry.

The Role:

As a Health & Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and maintaining a safe work environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring overall responsibility and compliance with the company's Health & Safety (H&S) policies.
  • Implementing practical and effective methods to promote health and safety in the workplace.
  • Conducting and organising relevant health and safety training for staff.
  • Carrying out risk assessments for each site as required by legislation and maintaining records.
  • Performing internal and compliance audits of all company sites, reporting findings and managing them to completion.
  • Coordinating and managing first aid and fire safety representatives across all sites.
  • Investigating all accidents and near-miss incidents, recording and analysing the data.
  • Conducting health and safety inspections and preparing required reports and documents.
  • Identifying areas where training or certification is necessary to meet legislative standards and arranging such training.
  • Keeping up to date with changes in current legislation and implementing these changes within the organisation.
  • Liaising with the Facilities Co-ordinator to establish contractor health and safety procedures.

Key Skills:

  • Experience: Previous experience in a similar role/environment is essential. Experience across multiple sites is ideal.
  • Qualifications: A qualification in occupational health and safety such as NEBOSH General or equivalent or level 3 qualification is preferred.
  • Legislation Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and other relevant legislation.
  • Professionalism: A professional approach to dealing with issues and employees, maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
  • Organisation: Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency in Windows-based programmes including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a range of people, both on the phone and face-to-face.
  • Teamwork: Strong teamwork skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigating risks and health & safety complaints.
  • Completing risk assessments and site inspections.
  • Facilitating health & safety training courses and meetings.
  • Identifying potential hazards and writing reports.
  • Managing processes for safe systems of work and incident management.
  • On-boarding new staff with health & safety training.

General:

The role will require occasional overnight stays away from home. A current driving licence is required due to the multi-site nature of the role.

What they offer:

  • Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum.
  • Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent.
  • Working Hours: Monday-Friday.
  • Holidays: 20 days holiday plus Bank Holidays.
