We are looking for a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join us to provide expert environmental health & safety advice throughout the delivery of a landmark defence programme in the South East of England.

the key focus of your role will be to provide environmental advice and documentation across multiple projects and areas of operation. You will also be responsible for the management and delivery of an environmental management system for the programme.

Your responsibilities will include:

Providing assessments and documentation for the purpose of SHEQ compliance in line with client / project requirements

Producing necessary documentation for the purpose of the environmental management system

Evaluating or managing SHEQ compliance, actioning / providing audits, investigations and site inspections

Lead on SHEQ standards and performance throughout the programme, reviewing data and driving improvement

Acting as PoC for SHEQ advice within the programme

Challenge activities that do not meet required standards and enact change to maintain H&S requirements

About You

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for health & safety professional with significant experience in a construction environment, any experience as a health & Safety professional within the defence sector will be beneficial. Environmental Health & Safety / SHEQ experience is essential.

You will ideally hold a relevant health & safety membership (IOSH preferable) and experience working on major projects in defence or energy sectors would be beneficial.

Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills

  • Experience gained in Environmental Management Systems, ISO14001, Sustainability, Commissioning / Decommissioning
  • Sound construction related health and safety management experience post Tech IOSH qualification;
  • Experience of delivering services on a live construction site;
  • Cohesive knowledge of construction methods and materials;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of construction related health and safety management;
  • Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation relating to construction;
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written;
  • Methodical way of thinking and approach to work;
  • Good problem solving, negotiating skills, financial and numeracy management skills;
  • Ability to prepare first class bids for services;
  • Competent ICT skills, with a high level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams.

Qualifications

  • Member or working towards membership of IEMA/CIWEM/ CIWM/CIEEM is desirable
  • NEBOSH Construction and General Certificates/Tech IOSH minimum (depending on relevant industry experience)
  • NEBOSH Diploma/CMIOSH preferred.
