What Your Job Is All About:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Health and Safety Manager to join Mash Direct Ltd Management team at our site in Comber (Northern Ireland). Reporting to the Operations Director, you will provide strategic leadership across the factory covering all aspects of Health and Safety management. You will also provide technical expertise to members of management & staff and act as a competent person as defined under prevailing statute.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain H&S strategies to improve standards in line with industry best practices and actively promote a developing safety culture.
  2. Manage and assist in the development of H&S policies, systems of work, and procedures.
  3. Undertake Health & Safety risk management assessment in line with recognized standards such as ISO 45001.
  4. Lead the risk assessment and safe systems of work and control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) projects.
  5. Proactively manage the employee liability claims process.
  6. Act as site technical expert for Health, Safety ensuring legal compliance.
  7. Act as site contact for regulatory bodies including the H&S Executive, Fire Service, Police, Public Health departments.
  8. Provide data to satisfy relevant legal and business requirements.
  9. Ensure a safe workplace environment and that H&S policies, procedures, rules, and regs are adhered to and regularly reviewed.
  10. Provide up-to-date information, training, and guidance on all H&S matters to all levels within the business.
  11. Ensure accidents are documented, investigated, and improvements implemented.
  12. Establish a full system of H&S inspections and audits.
  13. Liaise with external H&S consultants for training programs and services.
  14. Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant H&S and welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.
  15. Provide regular reports to Leadership Team on H&S matters.
  16. Liaise with suppliers i.e., Insurers, solicitors, auditors, Facilities/maintenance contractors etc.

About You:

Have a proven track record of delivering high standards of H&S compliance in a manufacturing environment. The ability to articulate complex problems. Critical thinker. Good negotiation skills. Team player. Relationship builder through great stakeholder management. Strong communication and influencing skills with employees at all levels. Ability to make changes to H&S processes and see them implemented. Be able to work independently, acting without guidance, taking responsibility for planning, and accomplishing own tasks or assignments within professional standards. Communicate effectively with internal and external contacts, using influencing and negotiation skills as required. Ability to work under moderate pressure delivering work requiring a high level of quality. Ability to foster positive collaboration amongst team members building a skilled, motivated workforce. Ability to recognize, acknowledge and improve individual and team performance. Ability to remain assertive yet supportive and personable in approach. Ability to handle problems and cope with challenging situations in a professional manner.

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum 3+ years experience working in Health and Safety
  • Degree or equivalent (NEBOSH Diploma)
  • Computer literacy with regards to document preparation, data analysis and utilization of specialist support software
  • Good knowledge of local H&S Legislation

Desirable:

  • Strong manufacturing/engineering experience
  • PUWER Experience
  • Food and Drink industry experience would be an advantage
  • Professional level membership of a recognized Health & Safety institute (IOSH/IIRSM etc.)
