Job Description

The Radiotherapy Physics Department are looking for a Healthcare Science Practitioner to join the team.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop your skills and progress your career. You will be expected to undertake routine work in all areas of radiotherapy physics.

You will ideally have a BSc Honours Degree in Healthcare Science (Radiotherapy Physics), a Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Science (Radiotherapy Physics) or a BSc Honours Degree in Physics, Applied Physics or relevant subject and a particular interest in radiotherapy physics. Full on the job training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

KOC is committed to training and developing staff skills and you will be encouraged to work towards obtaining Registration, either with or the RCT as a Clinical Technologist or the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist as appropriate, and will receive the full support of Medical Physics in doing so.

We are committed to introducing the latest techniques as well as the latest equipment: current areas of development include expansion of the IMRT service, expansion of IGRT, Deep Inspiration Breath-hold, SABR, Adaptive Radiotherapy and HDR Prostate Boost. KOC actively participates in clinical trials.

We are a young, enthusiastic, friendly and sociable team of radiotherapy physicists, technologists and pre-treatment radiographers here in Kent. We can offer you flexible working hours and an active continuous professional development programme based around regular Medical Physics Seminars and Journal Club meetings.

Both Maidstone and Canterbury hospitals have a day nursery and staff car parking facilities. The county town of Maidstone and the university city of Canterbury offer beautiful river scenery, historic buildings and excellent shopping facilities, leisure centres, restaurants and nightlife together with good schools. Both Maidstone and Canterbury are within close proximity to the S.E coast, London and the Channel Tunnel.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Degree in Physics, Applied Physics or other relevant subject
  • BSc Degree in Healthcare Science (Radiotherapy Physics)
  • Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Science (Radiotherapy Physics)
  • A-Level Mathematics


Desirable

  • Registration with RCT as a Clinical Technologist


Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Healthcare Science and its importance in patient care
  • Understand the concept of quality in both healthcare and scientific settings and practical approaches to assuring quality in applied science
  • In-depth understanding of accuracy requirements for quality control programme
  • Understanding of hazards posed by, and precautions needed with: -Ionising radiation


Desirable

  • Practical experience in quality control measurements on radiation treatment machines
  • Awareness of the need for quality control of all machines and equipment associated with the delivery of radiotherapy


Skills

Essential

  • Able to write scientific reports
  • Able to use Excel, Word etc. to set up documents and spreadsheets and extract information


Desirable

  • Able to take minutes of technical meetings
