Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Havant & Petersfield CAMHS for an experienced Highly Specialist Family & Systemic Psychotherapist. This is a permanent, part time post (22.5 hours per week).

We are looking to recruit a self- and relationally- reflexive clinician, who is highly motivated and has a passion for working creatively and collaboratively with children, young people and their families/ carers with severe and complex mental health problems.

Family Therapy is a valued provision in the team and wider service. The team has a working Family Therapy suite with an attached observation room and audio-visual equipment to support the delivery of a Family Therapy Clinic, which the successful candidate will lead and supervise. There is strong support from the Team Manager for the successful candidate to utilize their specialist Family & Systemic Psychotherapy skills and experience to contribute to the team, with only a minimal proportion of their job plan being allocated to more generic responsibilities. The successful candidate will also be supported by our well-established countywide Family & Systemic Psychotherapy group and have the opportunity to be part of the course team delivering the Foundation and Intermediate Systemic training.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high-quality Family and Systemic Psychotherapy service to individuals, carers, families and groups, in line with best, evidence-based practice and trust care pathways.

To be responsible for holding and managing a clinical caseload and to exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the planning and prioritising of own workload and the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients, within the bounds of the service operational policy.

To use analytical and judgment skills and be responsible for taking clinical management decisions in complex clinical issues.

To supervise Family and Systemic Psychotherapists, Trainee Family and Systemic Psychotherapists, Family and Systemic Practitioners, Trainee Family and Systemic Practitioners (including CYP-IAPT Systemic Family Practice Recruit to Train) and other staff as appropriate.

To provide Systemic Consultation to other members of the team/service and other professionals working with service users, across a range of agencies/ settings as appropriate.

To provide a systemic perspective and participate in multi-disciplinary team working, development and liaison.

To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the team's operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A recognised post graduate qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy (or equivalent).
  • Accreditation in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
  • A recognised qualification in one of the core mental health professions recognised by the Association of Family Therapy (AFT): Clinical, Counselling or Educational Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatry, Teaching (with substantial counselling experience), Mental Health Nursing, Arts Therapies, Counselling (BACP accredited) Occupational Therapy or Speech and Language Therapy OR completed an AFT accredited qualifying level training IN OR PRIOR TO 2007.
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
  • Evidence of post qualification training in clinical supervision.


Desirable

  • Evidence of recognised post qualification training in clinical supervision of Family and Systemic Psychotherapy.


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience in mental health after completing core professional qualification.
  • Substantial post-qualification/accreditation experience of Family and Systemic Psychotherapy (assessment, formulation and treatment), maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • A high level of competence in applying Family and Systemic Psychotherapy to complex difficulties appropriate for this therapy with the client group served by the post, and a proven track record of delivering positive outcomes in this therapy.
  • Experience of representing Family and Systemic Psychotherapy within the context of multi-disciplinary care within a complex organisational context.


Desirable

  • Experience of Family and Systemic Psychotherapy assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings and client groups including both adults and children
