What will you be doing?

As a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will work as an autonomous practitioner within the multidisciplinary team, assessing, treating and managing patients with neurological disorders including (but not limited to) acquired brain injury, prolonged
disorders of consciousness (PDOC), neuro-oncology, spinal injury and progressive disorders (e.g. multiple sclerosis). You will be working on a 40 bed, dedicated neurological rehabilitation unit, with full provision of therapy equipment and robotic capabilities. You will deliver highly specialist skills in acquired communication disorders, AAC, dysphagia, instrumental assessment and tracheostomy management, working alongside Rehabilitation and Neurology Consultants.

What are we looking for?

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent
  • Experience in speech and language therapy in neuro-rehabilitation and neurosurgery
  • Experiential post graduate learning and development of specialist skills such as video fluoroscopy assessment and fibre optic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow
  • Extensive experience of multidisciplinary / multi agency working at senior level including in the context of mental capacity assessment
  • Experience of audit, quality improvement, clinical effectiveness and project planning
  • Experience of supervision, appraisal, development and managing performance including competency development and the provision of dysphagia training
  • Experience of delivering multidisciplinary education and training
