Our client is looking for a Highways Public Relations Officer on a long term contract basis starting ASAP.

Important
Public relations experience, Stakeholders Engagement Exp. Highways/Civil Engineering experience preferred.
Main Tasks
- Engaging and responding to the public, local members, residents, internal and external officers, and any other stakeholders when issues arise during all phase of project delivery for all schemes delivered by the S278 Team and for schemes in other service areas in Engineering Design Services (EDS) that impact/interface with S278 works.
- To take the lead role in managing complex consultations including those which relate to contentious matters, independently attending and making presentations at public meetings with elected members, parish and town councils, public, stakeholders, local committees, interest groups and residents associations etc.
- To deal with enquires and complaints from MPs elected members, developers, agents, planning officers, government agencies and members of the public and act as the Council's representative, and promote the interests of the Council at formal hearings and inquiries in respect of relevant matters. Investigating and responding to verbal and written complaints and queries.
- To promote the projects delivered by the S278 Team which may include projects in other service areas within EDS by setting up and maintaining dedicated web pages and other suitable platforms. Including producing newsletters and social media updates. Responding to Freedom of Information Requests.
- Compiling complaints register and ensuring that it is kept up to date.
- Generally assist the S278 Team in preparing written and verbal communication for release internally and externally.
- Conducting regular visits to construction sites to gather/distribute information, to ensure stakeholders are kept informed of work programme changes and impact. Attendance at Project meetings including producing minutes of meetings.
- To be responsible for the development of performance management processes in order to ensure monitoring and reporting of service performance in relation to the secondee's area of responsibility.
- Assisting in general administrative support to the Project Team.
Communication Skills
- Ability to write letters, reports, and other important influential documents.
- Ability to discuss specialist matters comprehensively and constructively.
- Ability to make formal and informal presentations.
- Ability to coach staff in communication skills.
- Experience working within a highway engineering/transport planning environment.
- Good understanding of all aspects of civil engineering design relevant to the particular civil engineering service area.
- Good understanding of contract procurement processes, including compliance with the relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of current highway design, bridge design or other applicable standards.
- Previous working experience on NEC contracts.
- Working knowledge of NRSWA and TMA procedures.
