Job Description

To provide proactive guidance and generalist HR support in relation to all operational and strategic aspects of Human Resource Management for UPA and Serck.

Responsible for deputising for the HR Manager when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in partnership with Managers on performance management, absence management, engagement, employee relations, resourcing and growth and development.
  • Provide an advisory service to employees ensuring that they are fully aware of their rights and entitlements.
  • Support the HR Manager with grievance, disciplinary and capability investigations, and hearings.
  • Lead health and well-being initiatives.
  • Initiate and support improvement activities across the department/wider business.
  • Align HR activities and initiatives with business strategies ensuring these support business growth plans.
  • Support delivery of the HR strategy through the PDM process.
  • Support Organisational Capability including talent and succession management.
  • Support the attraction and retention of exceptional talent.
  • Ensure that Corporate Responsibility is understood by all and is integrated into people processes and programmes.
  • Coach and equip managers with the skills to lead and motivate their teams, ensuring that they take ownership for people issues.
  • Optimise employee performance through effective performance management processes and equip managers with the skills to deal with underperformance.
  • Implement employee engagement plans and encourage managers to seek ways to sustain high levels of employee engagement throughout the business.
  • Develop and maintain highly effective communication and consultation processes.
  • Advise managers on the more complex aspects of HR management including complex employee relations issues.
  • Advise on effective organisational design and manage reorganisations.
  • Manage training and development interventions and activities, delivering training interventions personally wherever appropriate.
  • Work with managers to facilitate and deliver change.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong IT skills (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and working knowledge of computerised HR systems.
  • Proven planning and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach to work and problem solving, and the ability to spot and deal with issues as they occur.
  • Knowledge of Employment Law.
  • Generalist HR experience gained within a manufacturing environment (desirable).
  • Experience of working with and advising Managers.
  • Good communication skills – written and oral.
  • Excellent interpersonal/negotiation skills with the ability to persuade, influence and when appropriate, challenge with tact and diplomacy.
  • Prepared to be hands-on and cover any reasonable tasks at any level in the function.
