Primary role purpose:

This is a very cross functional, almost hybrid role, within the IA&R Team. Supporting the Delivery, Insight and Analytics groups, by providing the interface into Data Engineering to create data assets and associated environment, that enables commercial, automation and efficiency objectives.

As well as facilitating the critical link between IA&R and Data Engineer, this role acts as the deputy to the Delivery Directors and also provides continually evolving thought leadership, around data transformation and visualisation tools.

Best practice guidance with regards data asset quality and governance, coupled with a willingness to coach, formally and informally, will ensure this roles success within the IA&R and wider GFC function.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Deputy to the Delivery Director, proposing appropriate recommendations for service, process and application improvements, delivery strategy and optimisation needs based on Insight Partner feedback and learnings from projects delivered
  • Key contributor in a cross-functional agile team with excellent individual contribution to sprint goals whilst also helping the team meet their goals through technical support and unblocking
  • Working with Insight Partners (IPs), IAR leads and Data Engineering to shape the IAR data tooling best practice standards across BigQuery, Alteryx and Tableau
  • Lead the analytics layer development strategy at Inmarsat with laser focus on unlocking new value opportunities and improving team cycle time through reduced complexity
  • Responsible for the long-term technical vision in IAR including technical debt management as the core link between the delivery team, data engineering team, insight group and product lead
  • Leading cross-functional analytical projects to support critical decisions or deliver commercial value and automation
  • Be intellectually curious about and maintain an in-depth understanding of current and emerging technologies that will support the team in delivering quality solutions
  • Manage the performance and development of direct report/s in line with the Be Your Best cycle, ensuring clear objectives are in place, development plans and regular discussions of progress against them
  • Provide technical coaching and support for the wider data community and acting as a lead actor in Inmarsat's data-driven evolution

  • Matrix responsibility with COO Data Engineering team

Skills/experience:

  • Leadership, management, relationship building and collaboration.
  • Agile delivery lead experience gained in a BI and Analytics setting and a lead contributor and advocate for agile principles.
  • Excellent SQL skills with a solid understanding of data modelling techniques for analytical use cases
  • Excellent Alteryx skills, ideally accredited
  • Proficient in Tableau, ideally accredited
  • Experience developing in cloud data warehouses (BigQuery preferred) with large datasets
  • Good understanding of solution maintenance and support processes and best practices.
  • Experience evolving and then delivering a data strategy
  • Drive the agile methodology in IAR and help the team "fail fast" as part of product development
