Insurance Consulting (Non-Life) Associate Consultant

Are you excited to use your actuarial expertise to help clients better understand and manage their risks? If the answer’s yes, then come and join the insurance consulting team at LCP! We are passionate about supporting our clients across all areas of general insurance actuarial and risk consultancy and are keen to work with people who share our passion.

Increase your chances of reaching the interview stage by reading the complete job description and applying promptly.

Some of our recent projects include:

  • Signing off on reserves of over £50 billion across a broad range of portfolios – including personal and commercial lines, within and outside of the Lloyd’s market, in the UK and beyond
  • Advising over 70 firms on capital and risk management, including internal model validation
  • Acting as the Independent Expert on more than 15 Part VII or Section 13 transfers
  • Launching LCP Insursight in April 2020, which is used by some of the largest insurers in the world to quickly and efficiently analyse over £100bn reserves.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for someone to help us support our clients across all areas of actuarial and risk consultancy. Your role will be varied, and include a mixture of client facing consulting, in-house client support and industry research. Ideally you will have some experience in reserving and capital modelling already, but keen to hear from you if you have a pricing and/or risk consulting background too.

Specifically, you will be:

  • Responsible for key aspects of our project delivery, working closely with the project lead and the wider team to deliver on time and within budget
  • Enthusiastic about new projects and opportunities, taking a proactive approach to getting involved
  • Working directly (virtually and onsite) with clients either independently or as part of a wider LCP team
  • Excited about new areas of research – eg machine learning, climate change or cyber risk – taking the initiative to extend your own knowledge on an ongoing basis
  • Drafting high-quality communications to clients (formal reports, presentation slides, day-to-day communications)
  • Presenting confidently in client meetings and dealing well with clients on the phone and face-to-face
  • Supporting in tenders and pitches for new business, working as part of a team
  • Contributing to LCP’s thought leadership, and developing your personal profile in the market, writing articles or blogs, presenting at conferences and participating in relevant industry working parties and conferences
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the insurance market and regulatory developments
  • Keen to share your knowledge by training more junior members of the team where required
  • Working within LCP’s internal professional standards and external professional guidance

What skills and experience are we looking for?

  • At least 2 years’ experience in non-life insurance, and you are making good progress with the IFoA exams
  • Ideally, you have experience in capital modelling and/or reserving in particular.Experience in pricing, IFRS 17, risk and/or machine learning techniques is a plus but not essential
  • You can explain technical matters clearly and simply, including to non-experts. You have a good eye for detail, but can balance this with being able to identify and focus on the most important issues
  • You can give concise summaries of analysis, but you’re also comfortable answering detailed technical questions
  • You have a natural curiosity for problem-solving and are enthusiastic to get involved in new projects
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness
  • You need to be able to see things from your client’s, or colleague’s, perspective and adapt your approach accordingly
  • You’re proactive with clients and colleagues, driving work forward and contributing new ideas
  • You have a proven track record of handling multiple projects concurrently, being able to delegate tasks effectively, looking for opportunities to improve efficiency and processes and re-prioritising work where needed. You can also work to tight deadlines when required
  • Experience with coding languages (in particular R and/or Python) would be helpful
